An implant to fill a hole in tissue, such as bone tissue, comprising a first portion that is insertable through the hole when in a first compressed position, wherein the first portion cannot pass through the hole when in a first deployed position; and a second portion that cannot pass through the hole when in the second deployed position. The first and second portions of the implant can be deployed independently. Therefore, in operation, it is possible to insert the first portion of the implant through the hole when in the first compressed position, deploying the first portion to transition it to the first deployed position while the second portion remains in the second compressed position, and then deploying the second portion to transition it to the second deployed position. The devices and methods may be used, for example, in transsphenoidal or other orthopedic surgeries involving bone tissue.

Implants and methods of use thereof

The present invention provides biocompatible, non-resorbable porous containment structures for containment of bone graft material at a desired location for stimulation of bone growth. The porous containment structures have interconnected pores sized to allow fibrovascular integration with surrounding tissue and conduction of vascular tissue through the structure into the bone graft material.

Bone graft material containment structures

A composite surgical implant that is made of a planar sheet of a thermoplastic resin that includes a top surface (), a bottom surface (), and a surgical grade metal mesh () contained therein. The implant may be bent by hand, wherein upon the displacement of the implant, the implant will generally maintain the shape to which it has been displaced.

Craniofacial implant

A composite surgical implant that is made of a planar sheet of a thermoplastic resin that includes a top surface, a bottom surface, and a surgical grade metal mesh or metal plates contained therein. The implant may be bent by hand, wherein upon the displacement of the implant, the implant will generally maintain the shape to which it has been displaced.

A cranio-maxillofacial implant material that is made of a macroporous (greater than 100 microns in diameter) interconnecting porous polyethylene structure with bioactive glass particles dispersed throughout the porous polyethylene structure, is disclosed. The Implant provides augmentation or replacement of cranio-maxillofacial tissues when implanted subperiosteally or within cranio-maxillofacial soft tissue. The addition of the bioactive glass particles to the porous polyethylene implant structure provides for faster fibrovascular ingrowth into the implant material.
