The present invention provides for an apparatus and method for supporting a circuit board such as a motherboard in the chassis of a computer. Embodiments of the apparatus provide for a circuit board support clip that supports the motherboard between a first and a second leg that cooperate to exert force on the circuit board in substantially opposite direction to support the circuit board.

A computer and a cooling unit for cooling a computer having a housing with a first panel including an aperture, a central processing unit coupled to a circuit board, a heat exchanger coupled to the central processing unit, and a power supply positioned apart from the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is positioned internally in the housing, and it is obstructed from the aperture in the first panel. In one particular embodiment, the cooling unit has a separate support element segregated from the power supply and an airflow director attached to the support element. The support element, for example, may have a first section attached to either the housing the motherboard, or another component of the computer apart from the central processing unit. The support element may also have a second section extending from the first section to an airflow site proximate to the heat exchanger. The airflow director may be a fan or conduit with an air-stream output at the airflow site to direct an air-stream across the heat exchanger.

Apparatus for cooling central processing units in personal computers

An apparatus and method for burning in a computer having a parallel port, includes a diagnostic program, stored in an internal memory of the computer, for running diagnostic tests on at least one component of the computer. The apparatus also includes a power cycling circuit, coupled to the parallel port of the computer, for receiving a power-off signal from the computer, for turning power off to the computer in response to the power-off signal and for automatically turning power back on to the computer after a specified period of time has elapsed.

Method for burning in and diagnostically testing a computer

An apparatus and method for mounting a disk drive such as a hard drive, floppy drive, or CD-ROM drive to the chassis of a computer. No tools or conventional fasteners such as screws are required to install or remove a disk drive. A combination of members, including shear connectors and a deformable member, are employed to secure a disk drive.

The present invention provides to a user parameter-specific information. In one embodiment, a server receives from a client a parameter-specific information request, which identifies at least one parameter corresponding to the requested parameter-specific information. A file processing program is then invoked to process a first information file. The file processing program reads from the first information file code segments, including both client-displayable segments and segments executable by the file processing program ('FPP-executable code segments'). If the code segment is client-displayable, the file processing program sends to the client the client-displayable code from the client-displayable code segment. On the other hand, if the code segment is FPP-executable, the file processing program executes the FPP-executable code. In doing so, it sends to the client additional client-displayable code in response to the at least one parameter identified in the information request. The client-displayable code sent to the client is then displayed by the client as its parameter specific information.

An apparatus and method for cooling components within a housing, such as those of a computer system. Multiple chambers are created within the housing, each having at least one cooling fan and a corresponding air inlet. These chambers are segregated by an internal divider or baffle element which effectively eliminates airflow between the chambers. Cooling fans within the housing are utilized as exhaust fans such that, in conjunction with the effect of the baffle element, substantially linear airflow is maintained within each chamber. Certain critical heat-producing components of the system are placed in proximity to the air inlets in each chamber, thereby maximizing the cooling of the components for a given fan rating and inlet air temperature, and increasing cooling system efficiency by substantially reducing the cooling of components that are insensitive to heat.

A slide rail for mounting internal devices, such as floppy disks and hard disks inside a computer case. The slide rail includes a biased mounting post which mates with matching mounting holes on opposite sides of the internal device. As the internal device is slid inside the computer case, the biased mounting posts protrude into the mounting holes of the internal device to reversibly affix the internal device to the computer case.
