Pulsatile flux drug delivery

A therapeutic agent delivery system that includes a catheter having a proximal end and an opposite distal end. The catheter has a body with a lumen defined therein. The body of the catheter includes a non-bulbous region having a substantially uniform outer diameter and a bulbous region made from an elastically deformable material. While in a first state the bulbous region has a maximum outer diameter greater than the substantially uniform outer diameter of the non-bulbous region; and while in a second state the maximum outer diameter of the bulbous region is reduced relative to that while in the first state.

Catheter for reduced reflux in targeted tissue delivery of a therapeutic agent

An anchor system for securing a lead to a patient's skull is disclosed. The lead is of the type that passes through a burr hole created in the patient's skull and includes a distal end which is implanted within the patient's brain at a target site. The anchor, according to a first embodiment of the invention includes a stem, an integrally formed rim plate, and a peripheral clamping structure. The clamping structure is adapted to receive and snugly hold a portion of the lead. The stem is sized and shaped to fit within the burr hole, leaving the rim plate positioned flush with the patient's skull. A flared passage is provided within the stem and rim plate so that the lead may pass through the stem and into the rim plate, at which point the lead follows the contours of the flared passage and communicates with the peripheral clamping structural. The clamping structure holds a portion of the lead so that any tension of the lead will not be transmitted past the anchor and the distal end of the lead will not become displaced from the target site. According to a second embodiment, the peripheral clamping structure includes several flexible loops that are sized and spaced from each other to allow a lead to be laced through the loops as the lead extends about the periphery of the rim plate.

Anchoring device for securing intracranial catheter or lead wire to a patient's skull

A catheter for delivery of a therapeutic agent directly into a targeted tissue that reduces or substantially prevents reflux and back flow by providing rigidity and strength via a stylet thereby eliminating the need for a guide or delivery sheath during positioning. The catheter has a flexible proximal section and a substantially rigid distal section formed from a plurality of distal subsections. The proximal and distal sections having decreasing outer diameters starting from the proximal end and advancing towards the distal end. The distal subsection closest to the distal end providing an adjustable flow rate via multiple output ports defined radially therein while the distal end itself is closed off.

A connector connects a silicone or other radially expandable catheter to a catheter that does not expand radially. The catheter includes a hollow first connection part, a hollow second connecting part and a locking sleeve. The hollow second connecting part is threadably connected to the first connection part. The second part has a rib protruding from an external surface thereof. The rib has a recessed notch. A locking sleeve has a lip projecting radially inwardly therefrom at each end. The lip at the second end is fixedly received within the recessed notch. The lip at the first end is disposed about the external surface of the connection part. The locking sleeve is axially movable with respect to the first connection part. Axial movement of the locking sleeve in one direction is limited, thereby preventing disassembly of the first connecting part and the second connecting part.
