Direct attached storage system and method for implementing multiple simultaneous storage schemes

To perform recovery of a headless computer, a direct connection is established by the headless computer with a recovery computer over a network link. After establishing the direct connection, the headless computer is initiated in recovery mode. The headless computer receives a recovery routine from the recovery computer, and the recovery routine is executed in the headless computer to implement a procedure to receive a recovery image from the recovery computer. The recovery image upon loading in the headless computer causes loading of software for recovery of the headless computer.

Performing recovery of a headless computer

In one example a method is provided. The method includes (i) discovering, by a gateway router, a server in a local area network, wherein the gateway router discovers the server by sending a universal plug and play (UPnP) message identifying the gateway router as a gateway router with access configurable by the server; (ii) receiving, by the gateway router, a response from the server, wherein the response identifies the server as a server that desires to establish external access; (iii) determining, by the gateway router, whether the server is a trustworthy server, wherein determining comprises comparing information received by the server with a stored list of trustworthy servers; (iv) configuring, by the gateway router, a logical port to forward incoming connection requests to the server; and (v) forwarding, by the gateway router, incoming connection requests to the server.

Automatic firewall configuration

An optical disc device includes a first optomechanical mechanism, a second optomechanical mechanism, and a positioning mechanism. The first optomechanical mechanism is located under an optical disc insertable into the optical disc drive to optically access a bottom surface of the optical disc. The second optomechanical mechanism is located over the optical disc insertable into the optical disc drive to optically access a top surface of the optical disc. The positioning mechanism is to precisely locate the second optomechanical mechanism over the optical disc for optically accessing the top surface of the optical disc and to prevent the second optomechanical mechanism from interfering with movement of the optical disc during insertion and removal of the optical disc into and from the optical disc drive.

Disclosed are various systems, methods, and programs embodied in a computer readable medium for calibration of a lens position in an optical disc drive. In one embodiment, a method is provided that comprises manipulating a lens focus actuator to relocate the lens from a first position to a second position. The lens substantially focuses a laser onto the surface of the optical disc when in the second position. The method also comprises determining a first input setting delta to the lens focus actuator that corresponds to a predefined position offset of the lens. The first input setting delta is determined based upon a second input setting delta corresponding to a distance between the first position and the second position.

Focus calibration in an optical drive. Optics are moved with respect to a disc in the optical drive. A first interface of the disc is optically detected at a first distance, and a first drive signal value is detected at the first interface. A drive signal change is determined using a second drive signal value at a second distance. A gain is determined using the drive signal change and a thickness associated with the first and second distances.

Focus calibration in an optical drive

A series of signals is applied to a lens actuator of a disc media marking device to respectively position a lens at a series of distances from an optical disc. A mark is formed on the optical disc at each of the distances of the lens from the optical disc by passing a light beam through the lens and onto the optical disc. The darkest of the marks is determined. The signal applied to the actuator corresponding to the darkest mark is determined.

For at least some layers of a number of stacked layers of an optical disc that correspond to different colors, an optical beam is selectively impinged on a region of the optical disc. The optical beam has a wavelength to which the layer is uniquely sensitive as compared to other of the layers, to sufficiently heat the layer so as to cause the region to change from at least substantially translucent to a color to which the layer corresponds.
