A system and method for allowing legacy devices to be discovered on a DotDot network is disclosed. The system includes a gateway device to interface between DotDot devices and legacy devices. In some embodiments, the gateway device has a plurality of network interfaces to communicate with these legacy devices. The gateway device discovers the legacy devices that it can communicate with. The gateway device then presents information about these legacy devices in a Resource Directory. In some embodiments, the Resource Directory is maintained within the gateway device. In other embodiments, the gateway device utilizes a Resource Directory that exists on the DotDot network.

Mechanically tuned radios and related methods are disclosed that utilize ratiometric time measurements to detect settings for mechanical adjustment mechanisms. The radio systems and methods disclosed make a first time measurement associated with a mechanically adjusted circuit, make a second time measurement associated with the mechanically adjusted circuit, determine a setting for the mechanical adjustment mechanism based upon a ratio associated with the first and second time measurements, and utilize the setting to select a tuning frequency for signals received by the radio. More generally, ratiometric time measurements can be used to determine a setting for a mechanical adjustment mechanism for a mechanically adjusted circuit, and this setting can be used to at least part control a desired operational feature of a device.

Methods and systems are disclosed that utilize FM tuner ground isolation when using a ground signal line as an FM antenna for an FM tuner integrated circuit (IC) within a portable electronic system. The ground isolation can be implemented, for example, using one or more isolation elements, such as ferrite beads, coupled between the FM tuner ground and the device ground. The ferrite beads can also be coupled between other pins for the FM tuner and the device circuitry. A car lighter adapter (CLA) coupled to the device circuitry can be configured to provide a ground signal line for use as an antenna for the FM tuner IC. Further, signal lines on a printed circuit board (PCB) can also provide a ground signal line for use as an antenna for the FM tuner IC. The device can also be as a personal navigation device.

Methods and systems are disclosed for folded antenna structures that allow for receive and/or transmit antennas to be used for portable or other devices. The folded antennas described herein can be configured, for example, to fit the design constraints and considerations for portable devices. The folded antenna structures can be implemented using relatively flat flexible printed circuits (e.g., flex circuits) and can be placed in available spaces within the portable device, such as above or behind a battery, while still providing good performance characteristics. Still further, the folded antenna structures can be implemented on a printed circuit board and/or as part of plastic materials and pieces included as part of a portable device.

Systems and methods are disclosed for the co-location of radio frequency (RF) antennas in portable devices, portable devices and their docking stations and related systems, and devices with restrictive space constraints to allow for simultaneous receive (RX) and transmit (TX) operation without degradation. The systems and methods disclosed overcome RX channel degradation, receiver performance, and other problems seen in prior solutions. More particularly, transmit and receive antennas are oriented to provide for cross-polarization of their electro-magnetic fields, are oriented to allow one or both antenna to fall within null regions of the other antenna, and/or oriented with both cross-polarization and null region considerations in mind. Other variations and implementations are also described.
