For use with a power supply having first and second circuit protection devices, a detection circuit, a method of monitoring the protection devices and a power supply employing the circuit or the method. In one embodiment, the detection circuit includes (1) a bridge circuit coupled to the first and second circuit protection devices, (2) a resistor parallel-coupled across one of the first and second circuit protection devices and (3) a sensing circuit, coupled to the bridge circuit and the resistor, that senses an imbalance in the bridge circuit and develops therefrom a failure signal when at least one of the first and second circuit protection devices becomes inoperable.

Detection circuit for circuit protection devices of a power supply and method of operation thereof

For use with a DC fan, a detection circuit and a method of detecting an operational condition thereof. In one embodiment, the detection circuit includes: (1) a sensor, coupled to the DC fan, that senses a current through the sensorless DC fan and produces an intermediate signal based thereon and (2) an alarm circuit, coupled to the sensor, that compares the intermediate signal to a range defined by an upper limit signal and a lower limit signal and generates an alarm signal when the intermediate signal is outside of the range.

A control system for an converter circuit using two interleaved boost circuits is described which uses a single PWM controller to control the switches in both of the interleaved boost circuits. A voltage feedback control circuit monitors the output voltage of the converter circuit and sends that information to the PWM controller. A current sensing circuit is provided that senses the current in each of the boost converters. The current sensed in the current sensing circuit is converted to a voltage and used in conjunction with the voltage information from voltage feedback control circuit by the single PWM controller to regulate both of the boost converter switches. By regulating the boost converter switches, the single PWM controller is able to ensure proper synchronization and current sharing while tightly regulating the output voltage and improving the input power factor of the converter circuit.

Control architecture for interleaved converters

A rectifier for a switching power supply or the like. The recitifier has a plurality of diodes coupled in parallel, each diode having in series therewith a saturable inductor and a node disposed between the diode and the inductor to form a diode/inductor pair. At least one resistor is connected between at least two of the nodes to assure nearly equal current flow in the diodes. Alternatively, a link winding on at least two of the inductors are coupled together to achieve current balancing.

Current balancing arrangement for paralleled diode arrangements

A power system plant includes a backplane arrangement including a primary and secondary bus to which intermediate power processing modules are selectively connected to the input and output power control and monitors of the plant. The backplane connections are controlled by the plug-in power processing modules. the resulting connections are unique to the type of plug-in module placeed on an input shelf (i.e. rectifier or converter plug-in module) and determine how the plant is to operated. The connections of these plug-in modules to the backplane connector are such that the plug-in module is designed to have its connectors connect to either primary or secondary referenced control signals. The connectors of the backplane accept both type of plug-in modules so that any plug-in module inserted is automatically connected to respond to the appropriate primary or secondary referenced control signals.
