An antenna assembly having a pair of feed conductive elements directed in divergent directions, with each pair of conductive elements including a conical sheet conductor and a cylindrical sheet conductor, and radiating wire conductors extending away from each cylindrical sheet conductor. A balun feed system is defined between the pair of conical sheet conductors. A plurality of ferrite-cored inductors are provided on the wire conductors. A tubular radome assembly protects at least the radiating wire conductors from damage from external forces.

A low-height PIFA-fed antenna system having high gain, wide bandwidth and wide beamwidth for applications on wireless communications devices. The antenna is suitable for internal installation within a handset, such as a cellphone. The antenna includes a ground plane conductor, such as the ground plane of a wireless device, and a resonator element having a top portion with a split free end defining an open space. The antenna is well adapted for high volume manufacturing processes using conventional fabrication techniques such as metal stamping or selectively plated plastic.

Antenna system having compact PIFA resonator with open sections

A high efficiency antenna for the 824-960 MHz and/or 1710-2170 MHz frequency ranges including world cellular and ISM bands, for use primarily on wireless communications devices such as handsets. An antenna system may be integrated within a handset as a 'pull-out' whip or as an internal antenna. The antenna uses an oriented PIFA-fed resonator working in conjunction with a ground plane conductor, which can be realized as the ground traces of the PCB printed circuit board and/or an extension of the ground plane of a wireless communication device. The antenna system when installed on a handset as a pull-out whip, requires approximately one-half the extended length of current pull-out antennas, thus improving the device's aesthetic and mechanical durability.

Antenna system with PIFA-fed conductor

An biconical antenna assembly including a pair of conductors each having a plurality of radiating conductors. One of the conductors defines a cone shape and radiating conductors extending to define a generally conical form. The other conductor defines a cylindrical shape and radiating conductors extend to define another generally conical form. The conical forms are defined by a pair of sheet conductors and radiating conductors generally divergent about a center point or axis. A feed point is defined generally at the center point. Multiple RF chokes can be provided on the radiating conductors to optimize performance of the antenna over a predetermined frequency range.

Biconical antenna assembly

An antenna assembly for multiple band operation of a wireless communications devices such as cellphones. Embodiments of the present invention provides for operation over 824-960 MHz Cellphone and 1575 MHz GPS bands and 1710-2155 MHz. Coverage over the GPS frequency band is highly desirable for wireless communication devices such as cell phones, in order to provide location information. Radiating conducting elements can be positioned in close proximity to an inverted PIFA-type antenna, requiring very little additional space or volume and allowing nearly the same form factor to be used for the antenna assembly. An illuminated panel may be positioned within an aperture of the ground plane. The panel may be back lit and activated in response to an external signal.

Multiple element antenna assembly

An oriented PIFA-type apparatus for reducing hearing aid radio frequency (RF) interference including a directional multi-band and/or single band antenna for use with PWDs such as digital cellphones is disclosed. The apparatus greatly reduces or eliminates the audio noise induced in hearing aids by the PWDs and allows operation of a hearing aid during PWD operation. In operation, the apparatus may be provided on the PWD side away from the user's head. The apparatus may be integrated into the PWB during its manufacture or provided as an after market assembly for a PWD that has a port for connection of an external antenna. The apparatus provides for improved front-to-back ratio as compared to antennas currently in use on PWD's, and therefore also reduces SAR (specific absorption rate), the level of RF energy received into the head by a PWD.

Oriented PIFA-type device and method of use for reducing RF interference

A single or multiple band quarter wave resonator antenna assembly for a communications device including a resonator element as a substrate element having disposed thereupon at least a pair of conductor trace elements. The conductor trace elements are disposed upon opposite sides of the substrate element and are operatively coupled to the communications device. The antenna assembly further including a separate conductive member having an approximate &#xbc; wavelength or greater dimension, which may be defined as the internal printed wiring board ground plane of the communications device.

Single and multiband quarter wave resonator

An antenna device is disclosed, which is intended for a portable radio communication device. The communication device includes a signal generating component having a signal output, said output defining a signal generating circuit impedance. The antenna device includes a substantially planar conductor having an associated impedance and preferably extending in a first dimension greater than approximately one-quarter of a predetermined operational wavelength. The antenna device further includes a matching network which is coupled to the signal generating output. The matching network having a substantially planar dielectric substrate and a conductive meander element and a conductive trace element, wherein said matching network transforms the impedance of the signal generating component to approximate the impedance of the planar conductor element.

Broadband antenna assembly of matching circuitry and ground plane conductive radiating element

An omni-directional antenna assembly is provided for wireless communications devices requiring multiple polarization characteristics. An antenna assembly for a communications device operating at a predetermined wavelength and having a transceiver circuit including a signal output and a ground plane, the antenna assembly including a conductive planar element disposed away from the ground plane and a conductive leg member coupled to the planar element proximate a perimeter, the planar element being disposed a distance away from the ground plane of the communications device to define a region capable of receiving one or more components associated with the wireless communications device.

Omni directional antenna with multiple polarizations

A compact single or multiple band antenna assembly for wireless communications devices. One multi-band embodiment includes a high frequency portion and a low frequency portion, both fed at a common point by a single feed line. Both portions may be formed as a single stamped metal part or metallized plastic part. The overall size is suitable for integration within a wireless device such as a cell phone. The low frequency portion consists of two resonant sections which are stagger tuned to achieve a wide resonant bandwidth, thus allowing greater tolerance for manufacturing variations and temperature than a single resonant section, and is useful for single band antennas as well as multi-band antennas where it may be used to enhance bandwidth for both sections of a dual band antenna as well. The resonant sections for single or multi-band antennas operate in conjunction with a second planar conductor, which may be provided by the ground trace portion of the printed wiring board of a wireless communications device. The antenna assembly provides a moderate front-to-back ratio of 3-12 dB and forward gain of &plus;1 to &plus;5 dBi. The front to back ratio reduces the near field toward the user of a hand held wireless communications device, thus reducing SAR (specific absorption rate) of RF energy by the body during transmit. The antenna pattern beam width and bandwidth are increased for a handset during normal user operation, as compared to a half wave dipole.

A diversity antenna structure for a wireless communication device for receiving and transmitting communication signals is provided. The antenna structure including a dielectric substrate defining a pair of major surfaces and having a conductive reflector element disposed upon one of the major surfaces of the dielectric substrate, said reflector element being operatively coupled to a pair of shield conductors of coax feedlines. The antenna further including a plurality of serpentine radiator elements conductively coupled to the reflector element. The antenna assembly also including a pair of transmission lines disposed upon the other major surface of the dielectric substrate substantially opposite the reflector element, each of the pair of transmission lines coupled to one of the center conductors of the coax feedlines, and a pair of conductive balun structures disposed upon the dielectric substrate and coupled to the pair of transmission lines, the baluns being disposed substantially opposite the plurality of serpentine radiators.

Diversity antenna system for lan communication system

An antenna assembly for a wireless communication device for receiving and transmitting a communication signal is disclosed. The wireless communication device having a ground plane element and a feedline conductor, said antenna assembly including a configured radiating conductor element having a pair of opposed ends disposed proximate the ground plane element and an intermediate extending portion disposed away from the ground plane element to define an interior region, said first end operatively coupled to the ground plane element, said second end capacitively coupled to the ground plane element, and said intermediate extending portion operatively coupled to the feedline conductor at a feedpoint between the first end and the second end.
