The current embodiments relate to ruthenium-containing supported catalysts, including processes for their manufacture and use, which destroy, through catalytic oxidation, hazardous compounds contained in chemical industrial emissions and otherwise produced from industrial processes.

Low cost oxidation catalysts for VOC and halogenated VOC emission control

A system for removing CO, Hand CHfrom an anode waste gas stream from a fuel cell is disclosed. The two catalyst system may comprise a platinum/palladium catalyst and a copper/manganese catalyst. The anode waste stream comes in contact with the platinum/palladium catalyst prior to contacting the copper/manganese catalyst.

An oxidation catalyst deposited on a substrate is described for the destruction of CO and volatile organic compounds, in particular halogenated organic compounds, from an emissions stream at temperatures from 250&#xb0; C. to 450&#xb0; C. The oxidation catalyst includes at least two platinum group metals, one of which is either platinum or ruthenium, supported on refractory oxides, such as a solid solution of CeOand ZrO, and tin oxide and/or silica.
