Provided herein are components for a fluid network, specifically a U bend structure connected to at least two pipes which is modified for one or more objective functions of interest such as pressure drop, erosion rate, fouling, coke deposition and operating costs. The U bend structure is so designed to have a specific ARQ between 1.0 to 1.02 for 5% of the flow passage from the inlet and from the outlet, and an ARQ from 1.02 to 1.15 over the remaining 90% of the flow passage through an Rb/D ratio being greater than 1 and less than 4.

Provided herein are components for a fluid network modified for one or more objective functions of interest such as pressure drop, erosion rate, fouling, coke deposition and operating costs.

A tip burner for a flare comprises a diffuser () which is sealingly connected downstream to a shroud () comprising a tightly packed bed of granular material (). The stream of fuel and oxidizer flows to a diffuser where is mixed and tangentially swirled by a swirler () located either in the diffuser or in a closed proximity to the diffuser inlet. The mixture flows next to the shroud where the granular material provides a tortious flow path for the stream, restructuring it aerodynamically and reducing its velocity, preferably to sub sonic level. A combustible mixture exits the shroud as multiple of jet, at low velocity and low turbulence. The mixture is ignited by a pilot burner installed above but in close proximity of the shroud, resulting in a stable flame which generates a low noise level.

A substantially linear ceramic or metallic radiant of ellipsoidal or polygonal cross section is placed proximate furnace tubes or coils in the radiant section of a fired heater to increase the radiant heat directed to the surface of the tubes or coils.

Industrial furnace

The present invention provides low profile, thick ('stubby') longitudinal fins having a cross section which is a parallelogram, trapezoid or a triangle extending from 10% to 100% of a coil pass and comprising from 3 to 45 weight % of a coil in a radiant section of a furnace for thermally cracking one or more of paraffins and naphtha. The fins provide an additional surface through which heat may be transferred to the coil making the coil more efficient reducing greenhouse emissions.

The present invention provides low profile, thick ('stuby') longitudinal fins having a cross section which is a parallelogram, trapezoid or a triangle extending from 10% to 100% of a coil pass and comprising from 3 to 45 weight % of a coil in a radiant section of a furnace for thermally cracking one or more of paraffins and naphtha. The fins provide an additional surface through which heat may be transferred to the coil making the coil more efficient reducing greenhouse emissions.

In one embodiment of the invention, the noise of a supersonic jet of gas venting from a lower stack having a flow control means may be reduced by at least about 20 dBA by attaching an upper stack to the lower stack, said upper stack being packed with granulae to provide a bed height at least one diameter of the upper stack the cross section area of the interstitial voids between the granulae being at least about 2.25 times larger than the cross section area of the flow controlling means installed in the lower stack. The said bed is contained in the upper stack and kept in place by suitable upper and lower retainers such as, for example, a mesh or a perforated plate.

Noise suppressor

The efficiency of heat transfer to a furnace tube or coil in a furnace for cracking ethane, propane or naphtha feedstocks, or a mixture thereof may be improved by providing protuberances on the surface of the tube or coil having i) a maximum height from 3 to 15% of the coil outer diameter, ii) a contact surface with a coil, or a base, which area is 0.1%-10% of the coil external cross section area, and iii) a geometrical shape which has a relatively large external surface containing a relatively small volume.

Resin beads having an average particle size of from 0.001 mm to 10 mm and containing a continuous phase and a particulate dispersed phase are described. The continuous phase includes elastomeric polymers; the dispersed phase includes homopolymers and/or copolymers containing repeat units resulting from the polymerization of one or more aryl polymerizable monomers. The unexpanded polymer resin beads can be prepared by dispersing an organic phase containing elastomeric polymers and one or more monomers, into droplets and polymerizing the monomers in the organic droplets in a low shear flow pattern. The beads can be impregnated with blowing agents, expanded and can be used to make molded articles. Resin beads having a continuous phase comprising a nitrile rubber, and a dispersed phase comprising one or more homopolymers and/or copolymers containing repeat units resulting form the polymerization of one or more aryl polymerizable show prolonged retention of blowing agents in unexpanded form.

Expandable resins

The present invention provides a process to create without mechanical agitation a zone of low shear, low turbulence flow pattern within a continuous liquid phase contained in a vessel and comprising a dispersed phase consisting of particles or immiscible liquid droplets which have a density different from and should be distributed within the continuous phase without excessive agglomeration or breakups in order to largely preserve the initial particle size distribution, by a continuous or periodic re-circulation of at least a part of the continuous phase which is preferably free of dispersed particles or droplets.

Non-Newtonian fluids, such as partially polymerized monomers or solutions of polymer in monomer may be pressure atomized below the surface of an immiscible continuous liquid phase to produce a dispersed phase having a uniform particle size distribution. A dual or customized size distribution can be obtained by imposing a controlled pressure pulsation on a flowing fluid upstream the atomizer inlet. Such dispersion may be further polymerized to produce a uniform or customized bead size product.
