OTF knife

A knife include a handle, button, blade with an integral tang, locking mechanism within the tang, and thrust mechanism. The blade moves between closed and open positions. The button may axially slide along the handle. When the blade is in the closed position and locked, movement of the button towards the first handle end releases the locking mechanism and the thrust mechanism moves the blade to the open position. A knife includes a stop pin connected to a tang of a blade and a stop plate positioned within a knife handle. The stop plate has two angled surfaces. The stop pin mates with both angled surfaces and the blade is constrained from movement in two planes.

Out the front, automatic knife

Double action, out the front, automatic knife

A folding knife, whereby a unique arrangement of linked levers, produces a geometry of mechanical advantage, allowing the user to safely deploy an extended, but unlocked blade, by simply griping the handle. A resilient element, in conjunction with the linked levers, produces a powered assist in the act of opening the blade and also in the act of closing the blade. Alternately, further means are disclosed of providing the option of a positive locking blade.

Lock optional, spring assisted folding knife

An improvement of a folding knife locking mechanism with an adjustable wedge to remove blade slop. The present mechanism allows for smooth opening and closing of the blade by limiting friction against the blade as it rotates. This knife has a bearing system for low friction blade rotation. Also the leaf strap lock is arranged so that it only comes into contact with the blade at the start of opening and at the end of opening, further limiting the friction forces against the blade. Provided is also an adjustment wedge to remove blade lock slop. In the manufacturing process loose tolerances can be adjusted out using the adjustment wedge. Normal use wear against the stop pins and handles can cause some looseness of the blade which can also be removed by the adjustment wedge.

Lock for a flip open knife, and mechanism for making same automatic

A folding knife includes a handle having a blade channel, a blade rotatably coupled to the handle, and annular blade seals coupled to either side of the blade between the blade and inner surfaces of the blade channel. A locking mechanism having first and second control pins coupled to the blade within the circumference of the blade seal so as to extend toward the first handle element. A lock plate is movably coupled to the handle and engages the first and second control pins when the blade is in the open and closed positions, respectively. A release knob coupled to the lock plate allows a user to move the lock plate to release the blade. A seal positioned between the release knob and the handle seals a space between the release knob and the handle.

Folding knife with sealed mechanism

A pocket clip is attached at a first end to a tool such as a folding knife. A roller assembly is provided at a second end of the clip with a portion extending toward the tool. The roller assembly includes a ratchet wheel between a pair of elastomeric roller wheels. A pawl engages the ratchet wheel and limits rotation of the roller assembly such that the assembly rotates in one direction around an axis transverse to a longitudinal axis of the tool, and resists rotation in an opposite direction. When the tool is positioned in a user's pocket, a panel of the pocket engages the roller assembly, which rotates substantially freely, permitting the pocket panel to slide easily between the pocket clip and the surface of the tool. However, the roller assembly resists movement of the pocket panel in the opposite direction, holding the tool securely in the pocket.

Ratchet type pocket clip

A safety lock mechanism for a folding knife includes a lock plate movably coupled to a handle of the knife for movement along a first direction from an engaged position to a disengaged position, the lock plate biased towards the engaged position. A rocker element is coupled to the lock plate for movement from a locked position to an unlocked position and is configured to prevent translational movement of the lock plate to the disengaged position when the rocker element is in the locked position. A control button coupled to the rocker element allows a user to move the rocker element from the locked position to the unlocked position and to move the lock plate towards the disengaged position to thereby release a blade of the knife.

Safety lock mechanism for folding knives

A folding knife includes a handle element, a blade rotatably coupled to the handle element, and a locking mechanism operatively coupled between the blade and the handle element. The locking mechanism includes first and second pairs of toggles positioned, respectively, on first and second sides of the blade, each pair of toggles being configured to move into a locked position when the blade is rotated to an open position. A handle of the knife may include the handle element and the first and second pairs of toggles.

A 'spring powered toggle joint lock' for a folding knife; comprising a blade lock of three primary elements. A rotating toggle link at the rear of the knife handle connected by a pivoting knee joint to a traveling toggle, which is in turn pivotally joined to the tang of the opening and closing blade. A spring configured so as to constantly urge the pivot points of the rotating toggle and traveling toggle into a straight line, generating an over-center action. The effect of the spring and toggle combination is to propel the opening blade towards open and the closing blade towards closed. Control pins attached to the traveling toggle and protruding to the surface of the handle, on both sides of the handle, provides the means to collapse the toggle lockup by thumb pressure, thereby allowing ambidextrous, one handed manipulation of a toggle locking folding knife.
