A distributed computing system for managing blood collection procedures in a blood collection facility includes a system server including a memory and a communication interface, the system server configured to store data identifiers for a plurality of different human operators. A plurality of computerized blood collection instruments are configured to collect blood from donors to generate collected products, each blood collection instrument comprising a communication interface configured to transmit data regarding the blood collection instrument to the system server. The system server stores data identifiers for each blood collection instrument. A computer is coupled to the system server and configured to present a dashboard for improving operational performance at and/or across blood collection facilities. The dashboard displays procedure data, data regarding the plurality of different human operators and data tracking each operator's activities or performance on a display.

A distributed computing system for managing blood processing procedures in a blood processing facility has a system server, a plurality of computerized blood collection instruments and a computer. The system server stores data identifiers for different human operators. The blood collection instruments collect blood components from donors to generate collected products. Each instrument transmits data regarding the instrument to the system server, the system server storing data identifiers for each instrument. The computer presents the data regarding the blood collection instruments on a display and receives assignments of different donors to different blood collection instruments from a human administrator.

A distributed computing system for managing blood processing procedures in a blood processing facility includes a system server, a plurality of computerized blood collection instruments, a network, a reception staff computer and an administrative level computer, with operations distributed among the various computing devices. The system server stores data identifiers for a plurality of different human operators. The computerized blood collection instruments collect blood components from donors to generate collected products and transmit real-time data regarding the blood collection instrument to the system server. The reception staff computer intakes donor data and uploads the donor data to the system server. The administrative level computer presents the donor data and the real-time data regarding the blood collection instruments on a display and receives assignments of different donors to different blood collection instruments from a human administrator.

Filtration systems and methods using a pump and pressure sensor are provided for improved efficiency in fluid filtration systems. A filtration system includes a pre-filter container joined to a post-filter container by a filter line having a filter. To reduce the time required for filtration a pump and pressure sensor are included in a filter inlet flow path. The pump also is used to provide air management in the system via pre-filtration evacuation of air from at least the filter.

Porous filter media and methods for characterizing, selecting and using such media based on their dynamic wettability are disclosed. The dynamic wettability of a medium is a measure of how quickly a given liquid is absorbed by the medium.

Characterization of porous media

A simplified fluid separation method and device usable for various apheresis procedures, including plasmapheresis. At least one pump is utilized to draw a first fluid (e.g. whole blood) into a separation device. The separation device then operates to separate the fluid (e.g. whole blood) into first and second fluid fractions (e.g. a cell concentrate and blood plasma). The first and second fluid fractions are pumped from the separation device to separate first and second fluid fraction containers, both of which are positioned on a single weighing device, such as an electronic load cell. At least one of the fluid fractions is subsequently removed from its fluid fraction container and returned to the human subject or other fluid source. Weights recorded by the single weighing device are then utilized to calculate the actual weights of fluid and/or fluid fractions pumped by at least one pump during the procedure. Such actual weights of fluid and/or fluid fractions are then utilized to calculate new pump flow constants, thereby enabling the calibration of the pump(s) to be corrected, on the basis of such new pump flow constants, prior to subsequent utilization of the pump(s) for pumping the fluid and/or fluid fractions. The single weighing device may also be utilized to monitor the weight change or rate of weight change occurring as the fluid fractions are pumped into and/or out of the fluid fraction containers, thereby providing a means for monitoring and verifying the pressures and flow rates within the system.

Apheresis method and device

A positive gauge blood pressure signal is transmitted to a gas column from a pulsatile blood flow stream hydrostatically higher than the pressure transducer. Particularly, a first conduit having a predetermined internal diameter smaller than a second conduit is connected at one end to the blood flow stream. The first conduit extends to a turnaround below the pressure transducer and is connected to the second conduit. The opposite end of the second conduit connects with the pressure transducer. The small internal diameter of the first conduit maintains the meniscus of the blood intact notwithstanding the pulsatile blood stream.
