Instruments and related methods for breaking reduction tabs are disclosed herein, e.g., for breaking reduction tabs of a bone anchor or other implant. In some embodiments, the instrument can be configured to minimize the space needed to operate the instrument. For example, the instrument can be configured to receive a reduction tab that is to be broken while the instrument is coaxially positioned with respect to a bone anchor receiver to which the reduction tab is attached. As another example, the instrument can have a maximum outer transverse dimension that is less than, equal to, or only slightly greater than a corresponding dimension of a bone anchor from which a reduction tab is to be broken. Guide rods for positioning a tab breaker instrument over a reduction tab are also disclosed.

Instruments and related methods for breaking reduction tabs

Disclosed is an instrument for balancing a knee. The instrument has a first plate () coupled to a second plate () by a plurality of adjusters (A,B,C). The adjusters are actuatable to vary the gap between the first and second plates. Each adjuster is coupled to the second plate by a joint having at least two degrees of freedom. Also disclosed is an outrigger (). The outrigger includes a body featuring a connection component configured to be received and held by a slot () of the instrument. The slot is arranged to align a blade of a surgical saw with a portion of a knee to be cut. Also disclosed is a method of balancing a knee using the instrument and a method of fabricating the instrument.

Multi-function driver instruments and related methods are disclosed herein, e.g., for applying a fastener to a bone anchor. In some embodiments, a single instrument can include features for driving multiple different types of fasteners, independently driving multiple different components of a single fastener assembly, and so forth, with the instrument being switchable between multiple operating modes to select the feature needed for a particular function. The instrument can include features for retaining a fastener to the instrument, e.g., during initial insertion of the fastener.

Multi-function driver instruments and related methods

Systems and methods are disclosed in which a distraction sleeve can be attached to a bone anchor assembly to lock or limit the polyaxial degree of freedom of the bone anchor assembly and facilitate true parallel distraction. In some embodiments, the distraction sleeve can lock polyaxial movement of the bone anchor assembly without directly engaging the shank of the bone anchor assembly, without directly engaging the exterior of the receiver member of the bone anchor assembly, and/or without requiring that a rod or closure mechanism be installed in the bone anchor assembly. The distraction sleeve can be preloaded onto the bone anchor assembly prior to inserting the bone anchor assembly using a selectively detachable driver, thereby providing simplified, streamlined insertion and facilitating use with protection and/or retraction sheaths. Countertorque tubes, torque wrenches, and other related instrumentation are also disclosed herein.
