Mastering tools and systems and methods for forming a cell on the mastering tools are provided. An exemplary method includes emitting a first laser light pulse from a laser for a first predetermined time interval such that at least a portion of the first laser light pulse forms the cell on the mastering tool. The cell has an opening size within a range of 10-100 micrometers and an aspect ratio less than or equal to 1.25.

Mastering tools and systems and methods for forming a plurality of cells on the mastering tools are provided. In particular, the systems vary the geometry of the cells or the placement of the cells, or both, for forming a textured surface on a mastering tool.

Systems for forming a plurality of cells on the mastering tools

A light collimating and diffusing film and a method for making the film are provided. The film includes a plastic layer having a first side and a second side opposite the first side and at least a first peripheral edge. The first side has a first textured surface, wherein between 7 to 20 percent of slope angles on the first textured surface proximate a first axis has a value between zero and five degrees. The first axis is substantially parallel to the first peripheral edge. The plastic layer collimates light propagating therethrough.

Light collimating and diffusing film and system for making the film

A light diffusing film for a back light display is described. The light diffusing film includes a unitary film consisting essentially of polycarbonate and a uniformly dispersed anti-static material in an amount sufficient to impart anti-static properties to the film. The anti-static material may comprise a fluorinated phosphonium sulfonate. The film may additionally include at least one textured surface for the low scattering of light. Alternatively, the film may additionally include a uniformly dispersed acrylic bulk scattering additive of particles having a mean particle size of from about 3 to about 10 microns and present in an amount from about 2 to about 7 percent by weight percent for the high scattering of light.

Mastering tools and systems and methods for forming a plurality of cells on the mastering tools

An embodiment of a method of making an optical film comprises heating the optical film comprising greater than or equal to 80 wt. % polycarbonate to a sufficient temperature to stretch the optical film, wherein the weight percent is based on a total weight of the optical film; and stretching the optical film. A resulting stretched optical film has a linear CTE measured in a direction parallel to a stretching direction of less than or equal to 50&#xd7;10cm/cm/&#xb0; C.

Methods of making and using optical film, light-diffusing film

This disclosure relates to a data storage medium, and in particular to a data storage medium comprising at least one high modulus layer. In one embodiment, an asymmetric optical storage medium can comprise: a substrate layer comprising polyarylene ether, a high modulus layer comprising a thermoset, and a data layer disposed between the modulus layer and the substrate layer. The high modulus layer has a tensile modulus that is greater than a substrate layer tensile modulus. In another embodiment, an asymmetric optical storage medium can comprise: a substrate layer comprising polyarylene ether and having surface features and a high modulus layer disposed on the side of the substrate comprising the surface features. The surface features can comprise pits. The high modulus layer can comprise a thermoset, and can have a tensile modulus that is greater than a substrate layer tensile modulus.

Storage medium for data

A storage media can comprise: a plastic substrate, an optical layer, a reflective layer disposed between the optical layer and the substrate, and an adhesive layer disposed between the optical layer and the reflective layer. The optical layer can have an optical layer composition different from the substrate composition. The storage media has a radial deviation over time of less than or equal to 1.15 degrees at a radius of 55 mm, when exposed to a cycle at 25&#xb0; C. of 50% relative humidity&#x2014;90% relative humidity&#x2014;50% relative humidity.

Radial tilt reduced media

A storage media having a radial deviation of less than or equal to about 1.15 degrees at a radius of 55 mm is disclosed. In one embodiment, the storage media comprises: a plastic substrate, an optical layer and a data storage layer disposed therebetween. A reflective layer is disposed between the data storage layer and the substrate.

Disclosed herein are light diffusing films, methods of making the same and articles using the same. In one embodiment, a light diffusing film is formed from a composition comprising: a polycarbonate, phosphite stabilizer, epoxy stabilizer, hindered phenol stabilizer, and light diffusing particles having a refractive index of about 1.3 to about 1.7. The film comprises a hiding power of 0 to about 0.5. In one embodiment, a method for producing a film comprises combining a polycarbonate, a phosphite stabilizer, an epoxy stabilizer, and light diffusing particles to form a combination, and forming the combination into the film.

Light diffusing films, methods of making the same, and articles using the same

A light-diffusing film comprises about 90 wt. % to about 99.999 wt. % polycarbonate, wherein the polycarbonate comprises a yellowness index of about 0.8 to about 1.5 as measured in accordance with ASTM E313-73 (D1925); about 0.001 wt. % to about 3 wt. % light-diffusing particles; wherein weight percents are based on a total weight of the light-diffusing film; and wherein the light-diffusing film comprises a light transmission of about 45% to about 65% as measured in accordance with ASTM D1003-00, and a hiding power of 0 to about 0.5.

Light-diffusing films, backlight display devices comprising the light-diffusing films, and methods of making the same

Optical film, light-diffusing film, and methods of making and using the same

A film comprising in admixture a thermoplastic resin component comprising a thermoplastic resin component and a glass having a refractive index within 0.04 of the thermoplastic resin component, wherein the film has a haze of less than about 20%, total transmittance of greater than about 70%, and a coefficient of thermal expansion of about 20 to about 80 um/m/&#xb0; C. measured over a temperature range of 20 to 70&#xb0; C. The films are of particular utility in optical applications such as light diffuser films.
