A detector system has a first detector configured to detect a first high-frequency signal having amplitude-modulated ('AM') noise to produce a first detected signal having at least a first detected AM noise signal component and a demodulated signal component and a second detector configured to detect a second high-frequency signal having the AM noise to produce a second detected signal having at least a second detected AM noise signal component. An algebraic combining network combines the first detected signal and the second detected signal to cancel the first detected AM noise signal component with the second detected AM noise signal component to produce an output signal including the demodulated signal component.

Noise-canceling down-converting detector

A field disturbance sensing system has an antenna, an oscillator producing a high-frequency signal, a first detector circuit, a second detector circuit, a combining network configured to couple the high-frequency signal to the antenna, and to couple the high-frequency signal and a reflected high-frequency signal to the first detector and to the second detector. An algebraic combining network sums a first detected signal having first detected high-frequency signal and a first detected reflected signal from the first detector circuit and a second detected signal having second detected high-frequency signal and a second detected reflected signal from the second detector circuit to produce a detected output signal. The first detected reflected signal is added to the second detected reflected signal and the first detected high-frequency signal is subtracted from the second detected high-frequency signal. A controller configured to convert the detected output signal to a speed between the antenna and a target.

Continuous-wave field disturbance sensing system

A method of down-converting couples a first high-frequency signal to a first detector and to a second detector. An antenna receives a signal and the received signal is provided to at least the first detector. The high-frequency signal is detected to produce a first detected signal including a first detected high-frequency signal and a demodulated signal. The high-frequency signal is concurrently detected to produce a second detected high-frequency signal. The second detected signal is subtracted from the first detected signal so as to cancel amplitude-modulated noise on a detected signal output.

An assembly, method, and device for high-speed optical format data transmission includes a printed circuit board containing mounting locations for electrical components, optical components, and a heatsink device. A tray may also be mounted on the printed circuit board to route optical fiber to various components. The heatsink is positioned at a predetermined height above the printed circuit board so that it physically contacts the electrical and optical components that require cooling. The printed circuit board may include one or more openings in which one or more of the electrical or optical components that are significantly taller than the other components are embedded. The heatsink may also include one or more openings in which one or more of the taller electrical or optical components are positioned. Additional compliant heat conductive material may be placed between the top of one or more electrical or optical components and the heatsink when the components are not as high at the position of the heatsink. Material may also be removed from the bottom of one or more portions of the heatsink to accommodate one or more of the electrical or optical components that are slightly higher than the position of the heatsink. The layout of the printed circuit board assembly includes positioning the electrical and optical components for receiving data on one section of the printed circuit board, while the electrical and optical components for transmitting data are positioned on another section of the printed circuit board. The electrical and optical components that are sensitive to temperature variation are positioned near the portion of the printed circuit board that receives the greatest amount of cooling.

Long reach unamplified optical SONET/SDH card

Highly efficient control of laser frequency is provided. An optical channel monitor is coupled to a composite WDM signal resulting from the multiplexing of outputs from multiple laser sources. The monitor determines the frequency of each laser and this measurement is used to provide feedback for laser frequency control. In this way a single optical channel monitor can provide frequency control for numerous WDM channels, greatly reducing the cost and space required. Monitoring capability may be provided to individual channels as needed.

An assembly, method, and device for high-speed optical format data transmission includes a printed circuit board containing mounting locations for electrical components, optical components, and a heatsink device. A tray may also be mounted on the printed circuit board to route optical fiber to various components. The heatsink is positioned at a predetermined height above the printed circuit board so that it physically contacts the electrical and optical components that require cooling. The printed circuit board may include one or more openings in which one or more of the electrical or optical components that are significantly taller than the other components are embedded. In a residential environment with more than one analog television set a residential gateway has a network interface module which receives signals from a telecommunications network. The signals contain compressed digital video information which is routed within the gateway to a video module for the generation of an analog video signal for a television set located near the residential gateway, and to a wireless module for transmission to a remote receiver using spread spectrum communications.

In a fiber-to-the-curb telecommunications system a method of network synchronization is presented in which data is transmitted from a broadband network unit to devices in a residence on a downstream carrier frequency, where the downstream data rate and the downstream carrier frequency are integer multiples of a sub-harmonic of a master clock. In the upstream direction, where data is transmitted from the devices to the broadband network unit, upstream data is transmitted on an upstream carrier frequency and the upstream data rate and upstream carrier frequency are integer multiples of a sub-harmonic of a master clock. Digital downconversion is performed on the data received at the broadband network unit to produce baseband samples.

Synchronization and downconversion in TDM/TDMA systems

A test circuit and method for determining the operating status of a coaxial cable, the coaxial cable including an internal conductor and an external conductor. The test circuit comprises a measurement terminal, a resistor coupled to the internal conductor adjacent a first end of the coaxial cable and the measurement terminal, a second resistor coupled to the internal conductor adjacent a second end of the coaxial cable and to a reference voltage, and a measurement device coupled to the measurement terminal for producing an output that is reflective of the operating status of the coaxial cable. In one embodiment, the measurement device comprises a voltage comparator logic output circuit. In another embodiment, the measurement device comprises an ohmmeter.
