This invention provides a composition comprising

Non-halogenated molecules having from 10 to 30 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, aromatic, saturated, unsaturated (and combinations thereof) alcohols, ketones, organic acids, organic acid salts, sulfonated derivatives of these compounds, and combinations thereof are used as tracers to measure oil and/or water fluid returns, such as from a hydraulic fracturing job. The non-halogenated molecules may be absorbed onto and/or adsorbed onto substrates and introduced into a subterranean location, desorbed and recovered from the subterranean location with a fluid, reacted with a reagent (e.g. pentafluoro benzyl chloride, and the like) to give a derivatized tracer. The presence of the derivatized tracer is then detected in at least a portion of the recovered fluid. A different non-halogenated tracer may be used for each hydraulic fracturing stage, thus, it can be determined from which fracturing stage water is produced and from which fracturing stage oil is produced, for example.

Use of long chain alcohols, ketones and organic acids as tracers

Non-halogenated molecules having 10-30 carbons including aliphatic, aromatic, saturated, unsaturated (and combinations thereof) alcohols, ketones, organic acids, organic acid salts, sulfonated derivatives, and/or other derivatives are used as tracers to measure oil and/or water fluid returns, such as from a hydraulic fracturing job. The non-halogenated molecules may be combined with substrates and introduced into a subterranean location, desorbed and recovered from the subterranean location with a fluid, reacted with a reagent (e.g. pentafluoro benzyl chloride) to give a derivatized tracer. Alternatively, the tracer molecule release can be delayed by use of an emulsion or a coating that allows slower diffusion of the tracer into the fluid. The presence of the derivatized tracer is then detected in the recovered fluid. A different non-halogenated tracer may be used for each hydraulic fracturing stage, e.g. to determine from which fracturing stage water is produced and from which oil is produced.

Corrosion of metallic tubulars in an oil, gas or geothermal well may be inhibited by introducing into the well a dithiazine derivative of the formula: wherein Ris a C-Cstraight chain or branched alkyl group; or a C-Caryl or arylalkyl group; Ris a C-Calkyl or a C-Caryl or alkylaryl group; and X is chlorine, bromine or iodine. The dithiazine may be isolated from a whole spent fluid (WSF) formed by reaction of hydrogen sulfide and a triazine. Alternately, the whole spent fluid containing dithiazine or dithiazine derivative and a corrosion inhibiting formulation may be used to inhibit corrosion in the well.

Dithiazine derivatives

Non-halogenated molecules including, but are not necessarily limited, to alkyl and aromatic amines having from 8 to 18 carbon atoms and salts of these amines, diols having the formula HO&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;OH, diamines having the formula HN&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;NH, dicarboxylic acids having the formula HO.CO&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;CO.OH, diesters having the formula R'O.CO&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;CO.OR&#x2033;, where n is 4 to 18, and R&#x2032; and R&#x2033; are independently straight or branched alkyl or aromatic groups of 1-20 carbon atoms, and combinations thereof are used as tracers to measure oil and/or water fluid returns, e.g. from a hydraulic fracturing job. The non-halogenated molecules may be combined with substrates and introduced into a subterranean location, desorbed and recovered from the subterranean location with a fluid, reacted with a reagent to give a derivatized tracer. The presence of the derivatized tracer is then detected in the recovered fluid. Different non-halogenated tracers may be used for each hydraulic fracturing stage.

Use of long chain amines and difunctional compounds as tracers

Aldehydes useful as HS sulfide scavengers may be corrosive to some metals such as steel, iron and aluminum, but the corrosive effect of the aldehydes may be mitigated by employing a corrosion inhibitor selected from the group consisting of a di-basic soluble phosphate salt, a tri-basic soluble phosphate salt, a phosphate ester, a thiophosphate ester, a thioamine, a Mannich Reaction Product, and combinations thereof.

Inhibiting corrosion caused by aqueous aldehyde solutions

A method for the dissolution of amorphous dithiazine buildup on a surface is presented. The method consists of treating the dithiazine buildup with a solution of hydrogen peroxide, which reacts and breaks apart the buildup for easy removal.

Sulfhydryl compounds, including hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans, may be removed from a fluid or gaseous stream or substrate by reacting the hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans in the stream with a scavenger of the structural formula: wherein R, Rand Rare each independently selected from the group consisting of Rand R, Ris a C-Cstraight or branched chain alkyl group, Ris &#x2014;[(CH)&#x2014;NH]&#x2014;(CH)OH, n and m are independently an integer from 2 to about 6, p is from 1 to about 6; and wherein at least one of R, Rand Ris Rand at least one of R, Rand Ris R.

In addition, the dithiazine or whole spent fluid may be formulated with at least one component selected from alkyl, alkylaryl or arylamine quaternary salts; mono or polycyclic aromatic amine salts; imidazoline derivative or a quaternary salt thereof; a mono-, di- or trialkyl or alkylaryl phosphate ester; or a monomeric or oligomeric fatty acid.

Method of using dithiazine to inhibit corrosion

Corrosion of metallic tubulars in an oil, gas or geothermal well may be inhibited by introducing into the well a dithiazine or dithiazine of the formula: wherein R is selected from the group consisting of a Cto Csaturated or unsaturated hydrocarbyl group or a Cto C&#x3c9;-hydroxy saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbyl group; Ris selected from the group consisting of a C-Cstraight chain or branched alkyl group or a C-Carylalkyl; Ris selected from the group consisting of X-R-X, Rbeing a C-Calkyl group; and X is chlorine, bromine or iodine. The dithiazine may he isolated from a whole spent fluid formed by reaction of hydrogen sulfide and a triazine. Alternately, the whole spent fluid containing the dithiazine may be introduced into the well. The dithiazines of formulae (II) and (III) are quaternized derivatives of the dithiazine of formula (I). In addition, the dithiazine or whole spent fluid or quaternized dithiazine may be formulated with at least one component selected from alkyl, alkylaryl arylalkyl or arylamine quaternary salts; mono or polycyclic aromatic amine salts; imidazoline derivative or a quaternary salt thereof; a mono-, di- or trialkyl or alkylaryl phosphate ester; or a monomeric or oligomeric fatty acid.

Quaternized dithiazines and method of using same in treatment of wells
