A dose counter for use in connection with a device adapted for metered dispensing of a medication is described. The dose counter has a first count indicator that has a first indicia bearing surface, with the first count indicator being rotatable about a first axis. The dose counter also has a second count indicator that has a second indicia bearing surface, with the second count indicator being rotatable about a second axis. The second axis is disposed at an obtuse angle with respect to the first axis, and the first and second indicia bearing surfaces align at a common viewing area to collectively present at least a portion of a medication dosage count.

A metered dose valve for use in a pressurized metered dose dispenser for dispensing a metered dose of an aerosol formulation comprising particles of a medicament suspended in liquefied propellant, optionally in combination with one or more excipients, the valve comprising a metering chamber and at least one porous, fluid permeable, particulate semi-permeable body, the at least one porous body being positioned within a region of the interior conduit of the valve, for example within the metering chamber, or a pre-metering chamber and/or an internal channel upstream of the metering chamber.

A dose counter for use with an inhaler comprising a container for medicament equipped with a reciprocal actuation means to dispense a dose of medicament therefrom, the dose counter comprising: a fixed ratchet member, a trigger member constructed and arranged to undergo reciprocal movement coordinated with the reciprocal movement between the actuation means and the container, said reciprocal movement comprising an outward stroke and a return stroke, a counter member constructed and arranged to undergo a predetermined counting movement each time a dose is dispensed, the counter member being biased towards the ratchet and trigger members and being capable of counting motion in a direction generally orthogonal to the direction of reciprocal movement of the trigger member, the counter member comprising: a first region for interaction with the trigger member which comprises at least one inclined surface which is engaged by the trigger member during its outward stroke causing the counter member to undergo counting motion, and a second region for interaction with the ratchet member which comprises at least one inclined surface which is engaged by the ratchet member during the return stroke of the trigger member causing the counter member to undergo further counting motion to complete said predetermined counting movement.

Dose counter for dispensers

This application discloses a dose counter device of the type for use on an aerosol dispensing assembly having an aerosol container and an actuator. The dose counter device is used for indicating the release of a dose of aerosol medication caused by the application of a force, in an axial direction, on the aerosol dispensing assembly. The dose counter device has a cap, a slider and a first counter ring. The cap is moved in a first direction along an axis of the container, which causes movement of the slider in a first linear direction laterally, relative to the axis of the container, as a function of the movement of the cap in the first direction. The first counter ring is rotated through a first arc in a first circumferential direction about the axis of the container, as a function of the movement of the slider in the first linear direction. The cap is then moved in a second opposite direction, which causes the slider to move in a second opposite linear direction, which in turn causes rotation of the first counter ring through a second arc in the first circumferential direction about the axis of the container. A sum of the first and second arcs of movement of the first counter ring defines a circumferential extent of movement of the first counter ring relative to the cap that indicates a single dose of aerosol medication dispensed from the container.

The present invention relates to a novel design for a metering valve that provides improved consistency of formulation delivery. Generally, the metering valve includes (a) a valve stem that generally defines a longitudinal axis and includes a body portion having a metering surface, wherein the longitudinal axis and a plane tangential to at least a portion of the metering surface define an angle from about 2&#xb0; to about 90&#xb0;; and (b) a valve body having an internal chamber defined at least in part by the body wall and includes a metering portion configured to substantially conform to the metering surface of the valve stem.
