An apparatus configurable as a back support and as a boarding ladder for use with an inflatable boat is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first frame configured for mounting on an inflated tube of the inflatable boat and a second frame, pivotally coupled to the first frame, the second frame having a transverse element. The second frame is moveable, with respect to the first frame, between a raised position, where the transverse element provides a back support, and a lowered position where the transverse element provides a rung of a boarding ladder. The apparatus may also include one or more third frames that extend below the second fame when the second frame is in the lowered position, the one or more third frames providing one or more additional rungs of the boarding ladder.

A method and apparatus for providing back support for a user seated on an inflated tube of an inflatable boat. A support element, which supports the user's back, is coupled to one or more anchor points within the boat via circum-tubular coupling elements that prevent the support element from rotating about the tube.

A system for identifying a model of an acoustic system in the presence of an external noise signal is disclosed. The system includes an acoustic actuator for generating controlled sound within the acoustic system. A sensor receives the controlled sound and the external noise signal and produces a sensed signal. A control system generates a control signal in response to an error signal. The control system includes a system model for generating an estimated response signal. The control system also generates the error signal representing the difference between the sensed signal and the estimated response signal. A masking threshold generator receives the sensed signal and the error signal and produces spectral shaping parameters. A shaped signal generator for receives the spectral shaping parameters and produces a test signal which is provided as an input to the control system. A signal combining device receives the test signal and the control signal and produces an actuator drive signal for driving the acoustic actuator.

Acoustic system identification using acoustic masking

A vibration excited sound absorber for reducing the sound radiation from a vibrating surface. Each sound absorber has a radiating element which is connected to the vibrating surface by a coupling means. The vibrating surface is partially covered with one or more devices. The dynamic response of the sound absorber is tuned so that the volume velocity of the radiating element is substantially equal in amplitude but opposite in phase relative to the volume velocity of the surrounding exposed vibrating surface. The net volume velocity of the surface is thereby reduced.

A method and apparatus are provided for simultaneously characterizing the disturbance of a dynamical system and the dynamic response model of the system. The disturbance is characterized by a sum of reference signals weighted by disturbance parameters. The dynamic response model is similarly characterized by a set of response parameters, which model the relationship between a set of test signals and the response to these test signals. The disturbance parameters and the response parameters are estimated jointly to provide a characterization of the dynamical system. This estimation is achieved by sensing the system at one or more locations to obtain a sensed signal, obtaining reference signals related to the disturbances, synthesizing an estimate of the sensed signal from the reference signals, the test signals, the disturbance parameters and the response parameters, and jointly adjusting the disturbance parameters and the response parameters according to the difference between the synthesized signal and the sensed signal. The characterization may be incorporated in systems or methods for control or monitoring of dynamical systems.

Method and apparatus for dynamical system analysis

A noise reduction filter for enhancing noisy audio signals, such as speech or music. In accordance with the invention, a noisy signal is passed through a first adaptive prediction filter so as to obtain a first signal component corresponding to the predictable part of the noisy signal and a second signal component corresponding to a prediction error. The first and second signal components are each attenuated respectively, according to the levels of signal and noise in each component, and then recombined to form an enhanced output signal.
