The compliance section may provide visualization of whether the usage value(s) complies with the corresponding planned value(s) such that the compliance section includes different visual features based on whether the usage value(s) complies or does not comply with the corresponding planned value(s). The usage region may provide comments and/or recommendations based on the learnings from analysis of offset wells.

Method and system for monitoring of drilling parameters

The present disclosure provides a drill bit having cutters of different geometries, such as the combination of round cutters and scribe cutters. The drill bit includes at least one radial location at which both a round cutter and a scribe cutter are disposed. Thus, the drill bit leverages the high cutting efficiency of the scribe cutter as well as the high impact resistance of the round cutter. Additionally, the round cutter and the scribe cutter have the same maximum distance from the drill bit. Thus, the round cutter and the scribe cutter which share the same radial location contact the rock formation at substantially the same time when used in a drilling operation.

A reamer is designed to enhance operation of a bottom hole assembly in which it is included. One or more capabilities and/or characteristics of the cutters carried by the reamer blocks of the reamer may be varied even in the same profile portion to enhance the functionality and/or durability of the reamer.

Reamer with improved performance characteristics in hard and abrasive formations

A drill bit includes at least two different sets of cutting elements, each being the primary cutting set corresponding to a different formation. Upon encountering a significant change in formation characteristics, the first set of cutting elements may be sacrificed so that the second set of cutting elements becomes exposed, preventing the need to replace the drill bit immediately. The sets of cutting elements differ from one another, with each adapted to cut a different formation. The differences may include material toughness (impact resistance), bevel size, abrasion resistance, or backrake angle. Additional sets of cutting elements may be added to correspond to other formations or to otherwise improve performance.

Impact resistant PDC drill bit

A drill bit has cutting elements with multiple cutting surface geometries that are positioned so that their cutting profiles overlap, but do not completely contain or engulf one another. The different cutting surface geometries and the specific overlap create a zone of high density in the middle regions of the cutting profiles and low density in the periphery, resulting in a cutting profile that becomes sharper with increasing wear. Such an arrangement is more effective and stable as the drill bit encounters hard and abrasive formation materials. Moreover, cutting elements with larger axial volumes may be combined with cutting elements having smaller axial volumes.

A method for forming a drill bit body is disclosed which comprises infiltrating powdered tungsten carbide with a binder alloy in a mold. The mold has therein at least one displacement adapted to form a mounting pad for a cutting element. The displacement comprises a substantially cylindrical body having a diameter selected to substantially conform to a radius of the cutting element and a projection adapted to form a relief groove under a position of a diamond table in the cutting element when the cutting element is mounted on the pad. The width of the relief groove is selected so that the relief groove extends back from an outer surface of the bit body at least about 40 percent of that portion of a thickness of the diamond table which does not extend past the outer surface.

A variety of large diameter PDC cutters for use in drill bits are disclosed. Specifically, various PDC cutters having a diameter between 19.0 mm and 25.0 mm are disclosed. The various PDC cutters disclosed include an elliptical PDC cutter, wherein a major diameter of the elliptical cutter is selected from a range of 19.0 mm to 25.0 mm, a circular PDC cutter, wherein a diameter of the circular cutter falls between 19.0 mm and 25.0 mm, and a non-planar substrate cutter, wherein a diameter of the non-planar cutter falls between 19.0 mm and 25.0 mm. Additionally, the thickness of the diamond table is increased as compared to prior art PDC cutters. The increase in diamond table thickness results in improved durability and performance.

Drill bit having large diameter PDC cutters

A novel drill bit includes a cutting reamer portion that cuts to gage diameter, and a pilot portion that cuts to a radius about 50%-80% of the reamer portion. The pilot portion extends downward from the reamer portion to create a distinct cutting area including pilot. The torque and weight on bit is evenly distributed between said pilot portion and said reamer portion of said drill bit by iterative adjustment of criteria such as backrake, siderake, cutter height, cutter size, and blade spacing.

Multi profile performance enhancing centric bit and method of bit design

A drill bit including improved gage pads is particularly adapted for side cutting a borehole wall. In a preferred embodiment, the drill bit gage pads alternate between an active gage pad with a cutting surface portion and a non-active gage pad with a wear-resistant surface. Gage pad cutting elements placed on a first active gage pad cooperate with gage pad cutting elements placed on other active gage pads. What results is a contiguous series of overlapping cutting elements suitable to cut the borehole wall. Non-active gage pads are preferably placed between the active cutting gage pads. These non-active gage pads have a wear-resistant surface (such as steel or diamond insert) that extends to the gage diameter. These non-active gage pads help to maintain borehole size and prevent undue torque being placed on the drill bit.

Side cutting gage pad improving stabilization and borehole integrity

A drill bit is disclosed which includes a bit body having a plurality of blades thereon. The blades have a plurality of cutting elements affixed thereon at selected positions. The cutting elements are disposed into at least two groups. A first one of the groups has at least 60 percent of the cutting elements therein disposed at a first mean backrake angle. A second group has at least 60 percent of the cutting elements therein disposed at a second mean backrake angle. The second backrake angle is at least about fifteen degrees more than the first backrake angle. A bottom hole coverage of the cutting elements in the second group is at least about eighty percent.

PDC drill bit having cutting structure adapted to improve high speed drilling performance

A fixed cutter drill bit particularly suited for plastic shale drilling includes rows of cutter elements arranged so that the cutting tips of the cutters in a row are disposed at leading and lagging angular positions so as to define a serrated cutting edge. The angular position of the cutting tips of cutters in a given row may be varied by mounting cutters with different degrees of positive and negative backrake along the same blade. Preferably, within a segment of a given row, the cutters alternate between having positive backrake and negative backrake while the cutters mounted with positive backrake are more exposed to the formation material than those mounted with negative backrake. Nozzles are provided with a highly lateral orientation for efficient cleaning. The positive backrake cutter elements have a dual-radiused cutting face and are mounted so as to have a relief angle relative to the formation material. Cutter elements in different rows are mounted at substantially the same radial position but with different exposure heights, the cutter elements with positive backrake being mounted so as to be more exposed to the formation than those with negative backrake.
