A portable explosives disrupter for de-arming improvised explosive devices includes a barrel for housing a projectile, a mechanism for firing the projectile from the barrel, a breech which may be adapted to house a variety of firing mechanisms, a light-weight, semi-rigid, three-dimensionally flexible, recoil-absorbing system for orienting the device in relation to a target and minimizing the effects of recoil on the accuracy of the device, and a means for accurately aiming the explosives disrupter at a target. Three different firing mechanisms are provided, the first employing a firing pin and shock tubing, the second employing a metal sphere and shock tubing, and the third employing a firing piston and a source of compressed air.

Explosives disrupter

A portable explosives disrupter for de-arming improvised explosive devices includes a barrel for housing a projectile, a mechanism for firing the projectile from the barrel, a breech which may be adapted to house a variety of firing mechanisms, a semi-rigid, flexible support system for orienting the device in relation to a target and minimizing the effects of recoil on the accuracy of the device, and a means for accurately aiming the explosives disrupter at a target. Three different firing mechanisms are provided, the first employing a firing pin and shock tubing, the second employing a metal sphere and shock tubing, and the third employing a firing piston and a source of compressed air.

A blast suppression system is provided, with the system including a plurality of command-actuated units located in the immediate vicinity of a bomb, a reservoir of suppressant material, and transmission lines connecting the reservoir to the units. Each of the units provides for the transmission of a suppressant material, preferably water, therethrough. Each of the units has nozzles configured to disperse the suppressant material into the air surrounding the bomb. Preferably, the transmission occurs prior to the explosion of the bomb, and continues after the explosion as well. Each command-actuated unit preferably has associated therewith an adjustable flow rate, an adjustable flow pattern, and an adjustable droplet size. In one embodiment of the invention, the command-actuated units are stationary, while in another embodiment the units are mobile. A method for utilizing the system is also disclosed.

Blast effects suppression system

Suspension apparatus (10) for the front end of a motorcycle, bicycle, or like vehicle (11), having a brake (12) on the front wheel (13), comprising a suspension device (14) comprising a pair of telescopic members (27,28) connected to permit relative movement between the frame (15) of the vehicle (11) and the axle (16) of the front wheel (13), a linkage (17,18,20) and a hydraulic cylinder (19) for converting friction force (at 17) from any substantial braking (at 12) of the front wheel (13) into an approximately proportional hydraulic force (at 21), and fluid connecting lines (22,24) with adjustable damping means (23) for applying the hydraulic force (from the fluid 21) to the suspension device (14), at an end surface (29) of a piston (35), so as to oppose and at least largely counterbalance the inertial force thereto resulting from the braking action, and thus to at least largely eliminate diving by the front end of the vehicle (11) when the brake (12) is applied.
