Disclosed is a diverter for directing particles that cause wear in a slurry pump away from the stationary face of a slurry pump. The diverter comprises a protrusion that directs particles back into the collector of the pump to reduce the number of particles that go through the impeller nose gap. The protrusion extends from the suction liner face to the front shroud whereby particles can be deflected away from the suction liner face.

Diverter for reducing wear in a slurry pump

A radial seal is provided for installation within a centrifugal pump of the type having an impeller, a pump casing having a suction inlet, a sealing ring groove formed in the pump casing, and means for supplying flushing water to the sealing ring groove. The radial seal comprises a seal body, including a sealing end, a water inlet end, and opposed sides. The sealing end has an outwardly extending lip portion. The seal is adapted for installation within the sealing ring groove, with openings formed through the seal body for the passage of water.

Self-compensating clearance seal for centrifugal pumps

A seal for use in a centrifugal pump of the type used for pumping an abrasive slurry, and having a sealing ring groove formed in the pump casing and an arrangement for supplying flushing water, comprising a radial seal having a sealing end, a water receiving end, and opposed sides and adapted for installation within the sealing ring groove, the radial seal having multiple openings formed therethrough for the passage of flushing water. The openings are dimensioned and located so that when flushing water is supplied to the water receiving end of the radial seal, the water flows through the openings, causing the radial seal to automatically moves to a self-compensating balanced position between the pump casing and a rotating pump impeller. This will reduce leakage between the pump casing and pump impeller and reduce wear of the pump surfaces.

An abrasion-resistant liner assembly for the suction branch of a centrifugal pump of the type having a suction connection for mating with a suction source, and a relief annulus formed in the suction connection, including a cylindrical liner, a groove formed in the outer surface of the liner and extending circumferentially around the liner, a seat ring positioned within the groove, and a seat ring holder positioned adjacent the seat ring on the inner end of the liner, wherein when the liner is positioned within the suction branch and the suction flange is mated with a suction source, the seat ring projects into the relief annulus, and the seat ring holder prevents axial movement of the liner.

Liner for centrifugal slurry pumps

A method and apparatus for determining the efficiency of a liquid pump using air as a test medium. The method includes determining the total power output of the pump operated on air and determining the input power necessary to operate the pump on air. The input power is corrected for power differences resulting from operation of the pump on air rather than a liquid to obtain a corrected power input. The corrected power input is then divided into the power output to determine pump efficiency. The apparatus for performing the method includes a liquid pump arrangement temporarily connected to a bearing arrangement. The bearing arrangement is designed to support only the static load of the pump and the dynamic loads generated by operating the pump on air. This allows a bearing housing to be used that is smaller in size and less expensive to use. In addition, because the pump is operated on air, the components for feeding the air are less expensive as is the medium itself.

Method and apparatus for air testing pumps

Disclosed is a centrifugal pump having inlet blade angles set to an angle which takes into account the velocity of the solids moving within a slurry steam to reduce the wear on the centrifugal pump. The centrifugal pump includes an impeller for moving the slurry. The impeller includes a plurality of vanes, wherein each vane has an inlet angle optimized for providing a substantially shock-free entry of slurry into the pump relative to a velocity profile of the solids contained within the lower half of the slurry profile to reduce wear on the pump.

Disclosed is a slurry conduit for connecting to a centrifugal pump for transporting a slurry mix of solids and liquids. The conduit includes an inclined upstream section having a reduced cross section whereby a concentration gradient formed within the slurry conduit is reduced. The inclined section forces any sliding bed or stratified slurry upwards as it goes towards the apex of the reduced section. The slurry entering the pump has a substantially monolithic or nonstriated composition, which reduces the wear on the pump.

A centrifugal slurry pump including a specifically designed impeller having circumferentially spaced vanes mounted between a back disc-shaped shroud and a front open annular shroud. The vanes are thick in cross-section for wear-resistance and channels between adjacent vanes permitting a relatively large spherical objects, such as rocks which are encountered during dredging operations, to pass therethrough, the objects having a diameter of in excess of 15 inches, while maintaining an efficiency in excess of 80% and a head in excess of 30 feet. The vanes further preferably have a mixed pitch and a negative overlap with quite large channels between adjacent vanes so as to pass the large spherical objects.

This invention provides a method for controlling slurry pump performance to better operate the pump and increase system operating stability. Such control is achieved by determining the instantaneous pressure produced by the pump (and the internal specific gravity that goes along with that) and using this pressure value along with the overall total pipeline resistance to determine the optimal instantaneous operating speed of the pump. When the pump is controlled in this manner, the adverse cavitation, wear, and other effects on the pump and pipeline associated with unstable system operation can be reduced or avoided.

A centrifugal slurry pump is disclosed which includes a specifically designed impeller having three circumferentially spaced vanes mounted between a back disc shaped shroud and a front open annular shroud. The vanes are thick in cross-section for wear-resistance and channels formed between adjacent ones of the vanes permit a relatively large sphere, or sphere-like objects, to pass therethrough, the sphere having a diameter of in excess of 14 inches, while maintaining an efficiency in excess of 80% and a head in excess of 30 feet. The vanes have a mixed pitch and a negative overlap, with quite large channels formed between adjacent vanes so as to pass the large spheres which are encountered during dredging operations.

A high efficiency centrifugal slurry pump having satisfactory wear characteristics. The increased efficiency is obtained primarily through making the pump more narrow. Through careful control of the other pump dimensions, the increase in wear normally associated with higher efficiency narrow pumps can be reduced or eliminated.

A centrifugal pump for pumping slurries and other abrasive liquids having an axial inlet and a circumferential outlet, an impeller rotating within a housing and a suction liner secured to the housing wherein the impeller has a radial nose projecting toward the suction liner, a wear ring providing a complementary confronting surface axially spaced from said impeller and positioned as a part of a spool piece within the suction liner. The spool piece also includes a control means connected to the wear ring to move the wear ring surface axially toward and away from the impeller nose to maintain a preselected clearance therebetween to offset the abrasive wear occurring due to the pumping of the slurry.
