A cleaning system for cleaning gas paths in an engine core of a gas turbine engine includes a source of an engine cleaning liquid, an engine cleaning mist forming unit, a delivery device, a pump, and a mist collecting arrangement. The forming unit vapourises the cleaning liquid to form a cleaning mist and delivers the mist into the engine core. The delivery device delivers the cleaning liquid to the forming unit. The pump draws the mist through the engine core to clean the gas paths within the engine core. The mist collecting arrangement includes a condensing chamber, collects the mist that has passed through the engine core, and condenses the collected mist in the condensing chamber. The pump is arranged between and interconnects a rear engine core exhaust nozzle of the engine core and the condensing chamber.

Cleaning system and a method of cleaning

A method for the removal of debris () from an aperture (), the aperture comprising a first aperture diameter () and extending along a first axis () over a first distance (), the method comprising the steps of aligning a beam of energy () with the first axis such that the beam of energy is coaxially aligned with the aperture, the beam of energy comprising both an energy sufficient to remove the debris, and a first beam diameter () which is less than the first aperture diameter; and, exposing the debris to the beam of energy in order to remove the debris from the aperture.

Debris removal

A cleaning system for cleaning gas paths in an engine core of a gas turbine engine is provided. The cleaning system includes a source of an engine cleaning liquid; an engine cleaning mist forming unit that vapourises the engine cleaning liquid to form an engine cleaning mist and delivers the engine cleaning mist into the engine core of the gas turbine engine; at least one delivery device configured to deliver the engine cleaning liquid to the engine cleaning mist forming unit; a pump configured to draw the engine cleaning mist through the engine core to clean the gas paths within the engine core; and a mist collecting arrangement including a condensing chamber. The mist collecting arrangement is configured to collect the engine cleaning mist that has passed through the engine core and condense the collected engine cleaning mist in the condensing chamber.

Inspection apparatus for a gas turbine engine, the inspection apparatus comprising: a sensor configured to generate data; a housing having an exterior surface and configured to house the sensor therein; and one or more foam members coupled to the exterior surface of the housing, the one or more foam members being resilient to enable the inspection apparatus to be inserted into a gas turbine engine and secured between at least two surfaces of the gas turbine engine.

Inspection apparatus and methods of inspecting gas turbine engines

An apparatus for inspecting a turbomachine includes a plurality of boroscopes, a device to rotate the rotor of the turbomachine and a processor having reference measurements of the rotor blades and/or reference measurements between the rotor blades and the boroscopes. A boroscope is inserted in a casing aperture upstream of the blades to view the leading edge and a portion of one of the surfaces of each blade as the rotor is rotated. A boroscope is inserted in a casing aperture downstream of the blades to view the trailing edge and a portion of one of the surfaces of each blade as the rotor is rotated. The boroscopes supply the images of each of the blades to the processor. The processor analyses the images of the blades and uses the reference measurements to determine the position and size of any defect on any of the rotor blades.

Apparatus and a method of inspecting a turbomachine

A boroscope has a first end and a second end, and the first end of the boroscope has an optical fiber and light source. A working head is attached to the first end of the boroscope. The working head has an electrical motor, and a tool is attached to and is arranged to be driven by the electrical motor. The boroscope carries a cable extending from the electrical motor to the second end of the boroscope.
