A coating composition includes pigments or a mixture of pigments, a surface active substance and a metal containing polymeric complex. The metal containing polymeric complex contains a metallic salt, a polymeric latex and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), wherein the polyvinyl alcohol has a molecular weight ranging from about 10,000 to about 65,000.

Coating compositions

The present disclosure provides low grammage recording media, and associated methods and systems. In one example, a low grammage recording medium can comprise a raw base paper having a basis weight of 65 gsm or less, the raw base paper comprising wood fiber and 2 wt % to 10 wt % filler including calcium carbonate. A surface treatment solution is applied to the raw base paper and comprises a surface sizing agent and 3 wt % to 15 wt % calcium carbonate.

Low grammage recording medium

A print medium surface treatment includes a first composition that includes a filler, and a polymer that is non-film forming until it is subjected to film forming conditions. The first composition has a charge density that is large enough to promote crashing of particulate colorants of an ink and low enough to avoid crashing of the filler.

Print medium surface treatment

A size press (SP) surface sizing composition provides a SP surface sizing for a print medium that is used in a digital printing system. The surface sizing composition includes an aqueous mixture including a macromolecular material in an amount from about 25% to about 75% dry weight; an inorganic metallic salt in an amount from about 3% to about 20% dry weight; and an amount of inorganic pigment ranging from at least 16% to about 60% dry weight, such that a total dry weight equals about 100%.

Surface sizing composition for print media in digital printing

A printable recording material containing an opaque supporting substrate; a resin barrier layer; an ink vehicle-receiving layer having a first structure with inorganic particles and, at least, a binder and a second structure with nano-porous particles and, at least, a binder; and an ink colorant-receiving layer. Also disclosed are the method for making such material and the method for producing printed images using said printable recording material.

Recording material

An inkjet printable media comprises a paper base containing a surface coating comprising calcium chloride and a synergistic amount of a sulfate salt. When the printable media is printed with an inkjet ink containing a black pigment, a KOD value of the printed media is equal to or greater than that of a comparative inkjet printed media comprising up to 12 kg calcium chloride/T media and lacking the sulfate salt.

Paper enhancement treatment with decreased calcium chloride

A method for surface treatment of a paper substrate and a paper product produced therefrom are disclosed herein. The surface treatment method includes applying a salt-containing solution to at least one surface of a paper substrate by aerosol spraying in a separate step, whereby the salt distribution through the thickness of the treated paper substrate is non-uniform with the highest concentration of salt being present in the outermost portion of the paper substrate. The salt-containing solution contains at least one water-soluble metal salt and is void of any optical brightening agent (OBA).

Surface treatment of print media

A surface-treated paper produced by applying a surface sizing composition to at least one surface of a base paper, wherein said surface sizing composition comprises a non-film-forming polymer latex and a metallic salt, said non-film-forming polymer latex has a minimum film-forming temperature (MFFT) of greater than 70&#xb0; C., and said surface sizing composition does not form a continuous film on the treated surface.
