Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for improving communications between a user equipment (UE) and a base station in a shared radio frequency spectrum while the UE is operating in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode. In particular, the UE may be configured to adapt operation in a DRX mode based on whether a base station has access to a shared radio frequency spectrum. For example, the UE may adjust a length of an on-duration for monitoring for a data transmission from the base station, adjust a periodicity for monitoring for control information from the base station, determine whether to keep monitoring for wake-up signaling from the base station, etc. based on whether the base station has access to the shared radio frequency spectrum. Further techniques for improving operation in a DRX mode are also described.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a receiving device may receive a wireless signal represented as a receive matrix. The wireless signal carries one or more information symbols modified through a wireless channel that is represented as a channel matrix. The receiving device may perform QR decomposition on the channel matrix to generate an upper triangular channel matrix. The receiving device may determine a selected demapping technique using the upper triangular channel matrix. The receiving device may perform the selected demapping technique on the receive matrix and the channel matrix. Numerous other aspects are described.

Selecting a demapping technique based on QR decomposition

A resynchronization signal (RSS) may extend across multiple physical resource blocks (PRBs) or subframes, which may cause the RRS to be scheduled to overlap with other downlink transmissions. Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for management of RSS and one or more other transmission types that may have overlapping wireless resources with the RSS. If one or more other downlink transmissions are scheduled for resources that overlap with resources scheduled for an RSS transmission, the UE may receive the RSS transmission or the one or more other downlink transmissions, or a combination thereof, based on a prioritization of the transmission types of the one or more other downlink transmissions relative to RSS. The RSS transmission or the one or more other transmissions may be delayed, dropped, punctured, or rate-matched when the RSS transmission and the one or more other downlink transmissions conflict.

Resynchronization signal transmission in wireless communications

Wireless communications systems and methods related to bandwidth part (BWP) switching after data communication are provided. A user equipment (UE) receives, from a base station (BS) in a first bandwidth part (BWP), one or more data bursts and BWP switching information. The UE switches from the first BWP to a second BWP based on the BWP switching information after receiving the one or more data bursts. The UE communicates, with the BS, a communication in the second BWP after the switching.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for higher bandwidth and data rate for enhanced machine type communications (eMTC). According to certain aspects, a method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) is provided. The method generally includes determining frequency resources within one or more configured narrowband regions of a system bandwidth to monitor for a transmission and monitoring for the transmission on the determined frequency resources within the one or more narrowband regions of the system bandwidth.

Larger bandwidths and higher data rates for eMTC

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device may receive a scheduling indicator on a first instance of a control channel. The wireless device may determine that a data transmission is scheduled for the wireless device based at least in part on the received scheduling indicator. The wireless device may identify a first frequency band associated with the data transmission and a second frequency band associated with a second instance of the control channel. The wireless device may identify a third frequency band to monitor based at least in part on the first and second frequency bands and a bandwidth capability of the wireless device. The third frequency band includes the first frequency band. The third frequency band comprises an associated bandwidth that is based at least in part on the bandwidth capability of the wireless device.

Bandwidth selection for enhanced machine-type-communications

A method, computer-readable medium, and apparatus are provided. In addition, the apparatus may determine a first set of subframes in the narrowband TDD frame structure used for transmitting a downlink control channel to a UE. In one aspect, a last subframe in the first set of subframes may be subframe n. Further, the apparatus may determine a second set of subframes in the narrowband TDD frame structure used for transmitting a downlink data channel to the UE. In certain aspects, a first subframe in the second set of subframes may be delayed based on knumber of subframes after the subframe n. In certain other aspects, a last subframe in the second set of subframes may be subframe n+k+x. Additionally, the apparatus may signal first information associated with the knumber of subframes to the UE in a first delay field in a DCI transmission.

Time-division duplex frame structure for narrowband communications

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may monitor a first control channel in a first frequency band. The UE may determine that a bandwidth capability of the UE supports communicating on the first frequency band and at least a second frequency band. The UE may perform a channel measurement procedure on the first frequency band and the second frequency band concurrently. The UE may transmit a channel feedback message including information associated with the channel measurement procedure.

Channel quality indicator design for enhanced machine-type-communications

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment may determine a relationship between a first set of antenna ports, used for demodulation reference signals (DMRS) associated with a machine-type communication physical downlink control channel (MPDCCH) and used for the MPDCCH, and a second set of antenna ports used for cell-specific reference signals (CRS); receive CRS on one or more antenna ports of the second set of antenna ports; and receive the MPDCCH using at least the CRS based at least in part on the relationship. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Using cell-specific reference signals for a machine-type communication physical downlink control channel

Techniques are described for handling collisions between uplink transmissions and downlink transmissions over a wireless spectrum. Some of the techniques allow a UE to perform a collision management procedure after identifying a transmission collision (e.g., a collision between a downlink transmission with repetition and an uplink transmission, or a collision between a downlink transmission with repetition and a guard frame for an uplink transmission). The collision management procedure allows the UE to refrain from transmitting at least part of an uplink transmission, refrain from decoding at least part of a downlink transmission, or a combination thereof. Other techniques allow a base station to mitigate transmission collisions by scheduling downlink transmissions based on received, inferred, or determined parameters of uplink transmissions.

Techniques to handle collisions between uplink transmissions and downlink transmissions over a wireless spectrum

A UE may determine a frame structure for narrowband communications, the frame structure corresponding to one frame structure from a group of TDD frame structures of different downlink and uplink subframe configurations. The UE receives configuration information indicating a first carrier to monitor for a BCH and/or a SIB1. Then, the UE receives a PSS, an SSS, and the BCH and/or the SIB1 using the frame structure determined for the narrowband communications. The first carrier that is used to receive the BCH and/or the SIB1 may be different from a second carrier used to receive one or more of the PSS or the SSS.

Aspects of the disclosure relate to techniques for mitigating the decoding errors observed at the receiver as a result of puncturing symbols between consecutive subframes having the same transmission direction. To reduce the decoding errors, a plurality of transmission options, each including a number of resource blocks and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS), may be identified. In addition, each transmission option may be associated with one or more puncturing patterns that hinder decoding of a codeword at the receiver. The base station or user equipment (UE) may then select or modify at least one aspect of a scheduling decision involving the communication of the codeword in a given subframe of at least two consecutive subframes to minimize decoding errors. For example, a selected puncturing pattern or a transport block size associated with a selected transmission option may be modified.

Systems and methods for mitigating decoding errors due to puncturing of symbols

There is a need to support narrowband TDD frame structure for narrowband communications. The present disclosure provides a solution by supporting one or more narrowband TDD frame structure(s) for narrowband communications. In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may determine a narrowband communication frame structure comprising a FDD mode or a TDD mode and a particular TDD frame structure for narrowband communications from a group of narrowband TDD frame structures. The apparatus may determine a periodicity, subframe number, and transmission sequence associated with a SSS based at least in part on the narrowband TDD frame structure. The apparatus may transmit the SSS using the narrowband TDD frame structure determined for the narrowband communications. In one aspect, the SSS may be transmitted in a same subframe within a frame and at a periodicity of 2 or more frames.

Narrowband time-division duplex frame structure for narrowband communications

In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may determine a narrowband TDD frame structure of a group of narrowband TDD frame structures for narrowband communications. The apparatus may transmit a series of repetitions of a narrowband physical downlink channel using the narrowband TDD frame structure. In one aspect, a first portion of repetitions from the series of repetitions may be transmitted in one or more first sets of downlink subframes using a first scrambling sequence. In one aspect, a second portion of repetitions from the series of repetitions may be transmitted in one or more second sets of downlink subframes using a second scrambling sequence.
