An electrolyte solution for iron-tungsten plating is prepared by dissolving in an aqueous medium a divalent iron salt (e.g., iron (II) sulfate) and an alkali metal citrate (e.g., sodium citrate, potassium citrate, or other alkali metal citrate) to form a first solution, dissolving in the first solution a tungstate salt (e.g., sodium tungstate, potassium tungstate, or other potassium tungstate) to form a second solution, and dissolving in the second solution a citric acid to form the electrolyte solution. An iron-tungsten coating is formed on a substrate using the electrolyte solution by passing a current between a cathode and an anode through the electrolyte solution to deposit iron and tungsten on the substrate.

Iron tungsten coating formulations and processes

A process for forming coatings on metallic web, the process including: immersing at least three metallic webs in an electrolytic solution contained in a reaction chamber; passing wave multiphase alternating current across said metallic webs by using back-to-back thyristors connected in parallel; moving the metallic webs through the electrolytic solution; and removing the coated webs from the reaction chamber.

Process for continuous coating deposition and an apparatus for carrying out the process

An apparatus for continuously forming thin ceramic coatings on metal sheets, foils or wires. The apparatus has a reaction chamber, perforated nylon sheets, nylon bar guides, copper rods attached to a power supply, nylon collecting rods, and an inlet and an outlet. The reaction chamber is capable of containing an electrolytic solution. The copper rods are separately connected to the R, Y, or B phase of the power supply. Each phase is provided with two thyristors and the output of the thyristors is connected to the copper rods using current transformers. A process for continuously forming thin ceramic coatings on metal sheets, foils or wires is also provided.

A process for forming oxide based dense ceramic composite coatings on reactive metal and allow bodies involves suspension of at least two reactive metal or alloy bodies in a non-metallic, non-conducting, non-reactive chamber in such a way that it causes either partial or full immersion of the bodies in a continuously circulating electrolyte. Thyristor controlled, modified shaped wave multiphase alternating current power supply is applied across the bodies where in each body is connected to an electrode. Electric current supplied to the bodies is slowly increased to a particular value till the required current density is achieved and the maintained at the same level throughout the process. Visible arcing at the surface of the immersed regions of the bodies is identified when the applied electric potential crosses 60V. Electric potential is further increased gradually to compensate the increasing resistance of the coating. Electrolyte composition is regulated through the changes in pH and conductivity of the electrolytic solution, Thickness of the coating formed on the bodies is monitored by the time for which the electrical power at constant current density is supplied to the bodies. The contains obtained are found to exhibit higher density and excellent wear.
