A system comprises a battery, a load and a power converter for converting battery power from the battery into load power for application to the load. A system controller enables selection between a continuous discharge mode and a discontinuous discharge mode of the battery. In this way, the battery can be operated in different ways according to the most appropriate battery discharge characteristics.

System and method for controlling discharge of a battery

The present disclosure relates to a lighting device () comprising a lighting unit (), at least one application unit (), and a battery housing () comprising a first battery compartment () with a first electrical contact set () for accommodating and connecting a first battery and with a second battery compartment () with a second electrical contact set () for accommodating and connecting a second battery, wherein the first and second battery compartments are configured to force an exclusive spatial accommodation of only one of the first and second batteries in the battery housing at a given point in time. The lighting unit is electrically connected to the first electrical contact set for being powered by the first battery in a first operational mode and the application unit is electrically connected to the second electrical contact set for being powered by the second battery in a second operational mode.

A power conversion system is to be used with an energy source. A plurality of conversion units are used in series via their output with the energy source output. A positive pin of a first converter and the negative pin of a last converter of the series are for connection to an output () of the energy source, and for each two neighboring converters in this series a negative pin of an upstream converter is connected to a positive pin of a downstream converter which both pins are decoupled from the energy source except for the positive pin of the first converter and the negative pin of the last converter. A master monitor unit is adapted to monitor the output power of the energy source and to control the input voltage of each conversion unit synchronously in dependence on the monitored output power. In this way, a set of conversion units are configured, with the conversion units sharing the output from the energy source. This provides a scalable system.

Power conversion system and method

An electrical luminaire receives an AC supply as well as an auxiliary power supply. A power converter converts the AC power to supply a lighting element. A power factor associated with the AC supply is used as a control input for selecting an amount of power to be supplied from the two supplies. This enables the overall power factor to be controlled, for example to avoid financial penalties associated with the use of the AC supply with low power factor.

Electrical appliance for connection to an AC supply and a control method

A lighting system has a set of multiple LED luminaires, and combines solar panel power and external grid power. A solar converter converts the output from the solar panel into a first power. Each luminaire is associated with a driver to inject current into the LED lighting unit from the external grid power supply. The LED lighting units of the luminaires are connected together to the solar converter and are thereby driven together by the first power simultaneously. This simplifies the structure.

Lighting system and method

The invention relates to a lighting device (), which comprises a power input () unit for reception of primary operating power from an external primary power supply, a lighting control unit () configured to control a lighting function of the lighting device, a secondary power supply unit () for storing operating energy and providing secondary operating power in absence of reception of the primary operating power, a wireless-transceiver unit (), which is configured, in performing a pre-installation connectivity test routine under supply of only the secondary operating power, to generate and transmit, upon detecting reception of a trigger input signal (), a first wireless test signal (), to monitor for reception of a second wireless test signal () from an external wireless-transceiver unit; and to determine whether or not the received second wireless test signal fulfills predetermined test-signal criteria and to provide an output signal indicative thereof.

Lighting device with connectivity test routine function capability

A ceiling element including a base adapted to be mounted in a ceiling of a room, thereby defining a room space under the base and a ceiling space above the base, is provided. The ceiling element includes a battery container adapted to receive a battery and arranged at the base such that it is located in the ceiling space when the ceiling element is mounted in the ceiling. The ceiling element further includes a conduit arranged to convey air between the room space and the ceiling space and/or the battery space when a temperature of the room space is different from a temperature of the ceiling space and/or a temperature of the battery container. A method of thermal management of a battery received in a battery container located in a ceiling space is also provided.

Ceiling element

A power conversion system has a plurality of power tracking converters connected in parallel to an output of an energy source such as a solar system. A communication system between the converters implements a sequence of operation of the converters, such that in response to a communication signal from a preceding converter in the sequence, each converter performs tuning of its power tracking function and then provides a communication signal to the next converter in the sequence. Each converter for example functions as a maximum power point tracking system. The system may be made from a set of smaller units so that different systems may be formed from a small set of standard components. By operating the converters in a sequence, conflict between the converters and instability is avoided.

A retrofit Light Emitting Diode, LED, lighting device for connection to an electronic ballast, wherein said retrofit LED lighting device comprising an LED array for emitting light, an alternating current, AC, LED driver arranged for receiving an AC supply voltage or an AC supply current, from said electronic ballast and for driving said LED array based on said received AC supply voltage or said AC supply current, at least one switch, wherein in a closed position of said at least one switch, said retrofit LED lighting device provides a closed loop current circuit for an electronic ballast connected to said retrofit LED lighting device and in an open position of said at least one switch, said retrofit LED lighting device provides an open loop current circuit for an electronic ballast connected to said retrofit LED lighting device thereby simulating an absence of said LED lighting device to said electronic ballast, an auxiliary power supply and a stand-alone external trigger circuit, connected to said auxiliary power supply, and only dedicated for receiving an external trigger and for controlling said at least one switch based on said received external trigger.

Retrofit light emitting diode, LED, lighting device with reduced power consumption in standby mode

A method is provided, repeated over successive time slots, for controlling the distribution of power from a time varying renewable power source between a battery and a power grid. The method comprises comparing the maximum input power of a battery with the power output of the time varying power source and determining a ratio for distributing the power between the battery and the power grid based on the comparison. Wherein distributing the output power to the energy storage device as a priority when the output power of the power source is below the maximum input power of the energy storage device; and increasing the ratio for the grid and decreasing the ratio for the energy storage device as the output power of the power source increases above the maximum input power of the energy storage device. The surplus power produced by the power source, above the maximum input power of the energy storage device, is discarded when the output power is distributed to the energy storage device.

Method and system for optimally distributing power between a battery and a power grid

A driving circuit for driving an appliance has a two-line power input, a first output for connection to the appliance, a second, two-line, output, an internal energy source and a switching arrangement. The switching arrangement is configurable into at least a first mode, in which the two-line power input is connected to the second, two-line, output, and the internal energy source is isolated from direct connection to the two-line power input, and a second mode in which the internal energy source is in series between a first line of the two-line power input and a corresponding first line of the second, two-line, output. The first mode is used for normal operation of an appliance and the second mode is used for grid feeding.

Driving circuit, driving arrangement and driving method, suitable for grid feeding

A luminaire that adjusts a certain set of light sources according to the installation location of said luminaire with respect to an external structure. A luminaire with a light emitting surface comprising a LED driver (); an array of light sources, the luminaire further comprising: a light output tuning unit, connected to a certain set of light sources within the array and being able to tune an light output of said certain set of light sources; an interface adapted to be operated during an installation/commissioning of the luminaire, adapted for receiving configuration information which is dimming information; and a control unit, for controlling the tuning unit according to the received configuration information; wherein the light emitting surface is a planar surface and said certain set of light sources is on at least one edge of the planar surface and wherein said array of light sources is connected to the LED driver () and the light output tuning unit comprises a dimming circuit including at least one shunt switch adapted to shunt said certain set of light sources off from or on to the LED driver ().
