Forging machine

To produce a chamfer or a keyway on a workpiece, the workpiece is machined with a longitudinal feed following the course of the chamfer or groove. To obtain a clean chamfer or groove in an economic way, machining is effected by a peeling operation by means of a peeling knife, whose broadside forming a cutting edge is aligned transverse to the feed direction during the longitudinal feed, and which is guided parallel to the workpiece surface with a certain cutting depth.

A forging machine (,) comprises at least two forging punches (,) acting against each other and longitudinally guided in a forging box (,), which forging punches each have separate mechanical lifting drives and preferably vertical position adjusting means. To achieve a rugged lifting drive with high machine rigidities and a simplified construction, the lifting drives are comprised of a wobble plate drive (,) including a wobble plate (,) rotatably and drivably, but immovably mounted in the forging box (,) about a wobble axis (T) offset in parallel to the respective forging punch axis (S), and a pressure plate (,) associated to the wobble plate (,) and supported in the manner of a ball-and-socket joint on the end face of the associated forging punch (,) facing the wobble plate, where preferably the forging punches (,) can be pressurized via pressure springs (,) in the sense of a frictional connectoin of wobble plates (,) and pressure plates (,).

For making a nest of cuts (N) for cutting blanks out of flat, irregular workpieces (W), the contour (U) and the flaws (F) of the spread workpieces (W) together with a workpiece characteristic are detected by means of a digitizing unit (,), and the corresponding data are read into a computer (,), which on the basis of these data and the data stored in the computer (,) concerning number, shape and quality requirements of the blanks calculates and stores a nest of cuts and utilizes the detected workpiece characteristics of the workpieces (W) as a workpiece code for allocating the nests of cuts (N) to the respective workpieces (W). To provide for an economic nesting with an optimized detection of flaws and consideration of flaws, an interactive nesting is performed for selected partial areas (T) of the workpieces (W) prior to the automatic nesting on the part of the computer, in that images (B) of the blanks (Z) to be nested, which were provided by the computer (,) and can optically be superimposed on the workpieces (W) or an image of the workpieces, are positioned by specific control operations of the nester, preferably by control operations to be recognized by the digitizing unit, and are combined to partial nests (Nt) within the partial areas (T), whereupon the computer (,) calculates residual nests (Nr) for the remaining residual areas (R) of the workpieces (W), combines the residual nests (Nr) with the associated partial nests (Nt) and stores each of these combinations of partial and residual nests as nest of cuts (N) for the individual workpieces (W).

Method of making a nest of cuts

A swaging machine (1) for swaging rod-shaped workpieces (W) has a ring-shaped forging box (3) supported in a machine frame (2) so as to be driven and rotated about the travel axis (A) of the workpiece (W), where in radial recesses (4) of the forging box forging punches (5) are accommodated which act against each other and can be lifted via a lifting drive (7) while the forging box rotates at the same time. To ensure swaging with a non-rotating workpiece (W) subjected to a pure longitudinal feed, the forging punches (5) are supported in the recesses (4) of the forging box (3) via pivotally mounted longitudinal guideways (13), and oscillating movements with a direction of movement lying in a normal plane (N) with respect to the travel axis (A) can be superimposed on the lifting movements of the forging punches (5) for swinging back the associated forging tools (6) relative to the forging box (13) during their contact with the workpiece at an angular velocity corresponding to the angular velocity of the rotation of the forging box, but directed in the opposite direction.

For producing metallic bar stock there is first of all fabricated a primary product of substantially regularly round or angular cross-section, and this primary product is then deformed in cross-section to the final dimension corresponding to the bar stock by means of shaping. To provide for an efficient production of high-quality bar stock also in a minor quantity, the completely solidified primary product is subjected to a forging operation for a structural improvement before shaping it to the final dimension, during which forging off in one processing plane a spreading-restricted reduction of the cross-section in the range from (1.5 to 5):1 is effected.

A method of cutting out blanks from workpieces of a sheet material comprises the steps of spreading the workpieces on a supporting surface of an imaging apparatus, manually marking the characteristic features of the workpieces to obtain markings, assigning a workpiece identifier to each spread workpiece, photographing the contour of the workpieces, the markings and the workpiece identifiers to obtain corresponding data, entering the obtained data into a computer having a memory having stored therein data as to number, contour and quality requirements of the blanks, the computer computing a pattern on the basis of the entered and stored data, storing the computed pattern and allocating the stored pattern to the workpieces identified by the workpiece identifiers, placing a respective workpiece on a working surface of a cutting apparatus in a determined position, photographing the one workpiece and the determined position thereof to obtain corresponding data, entering the obtained data into the computer, the computer computing the determined position and selecting the stored pattern allocated to the one workpiece, repositioning the one workpiece in a position adjusted to the selected stored pattern, and cutting the one workpiece in response to a control program responsive to the selected stored pattern allocated to said workpiece.

A method and apparatus for supporting and retaining a workpiece on a work-supporting deck for machining. The work-supporting deck includes vacuum aspirators each having a lifting ram formed with an axial suction bore and a suction cup carried on top of the lifting ram and communicating with the suction bore. An actuator is connected to each lifting ram and individually operable to move the associated lifting ram along a vertical axis. A clamping device releasably clamps onto each of the lifting rams. The actuator moves the clamped clamping device and lifting ram along a displacement path parallel to the vertical or any other axis.

For rationally preparing and laying tape material strips, an exchangeable cassette is provided which is selectively insertable in a cutting station and a laying head. The cassette comprises two rotatable roll holders for a delivery roll from which tape material carried on a support layer is unreeled in the cutting station until the delivery roll is empty and a storage roll on which the support layer carrying cut tape material pieces is wound. The rotatable roll holders in the cutting station and the laying head and holders for the delivery and storage rolls are arranged to form a plug connection. The cassette also comprises guides defining therebetween processing zones freely accessible from outside the cassette for working on the tape material, and the processing zones are arranged in the range of a cutting device and the waste material removing devices in the cutting station, and in the range of a pressure device for pressing the tape material strips against the laying-up surface when the cassette is inserted on the laying head.

A work-supporting deck for use in machine tools for processing flat material comprises vacuum aspirators, which serve to support and retain a workpiece and carry suction cups, which are adjustable in height by actuators. To provide economical means for reliably retaining the workpieces substantially independently of its shape and size, a multiplicity of vacuum aspirators are provided, which are arranged in rows and columns and are connected each to an individually operable actuator for moving the suction cup between an inactive lower position and an active upper position.

The apparatus combines a cutting tool operable to perform a feed movement along a desired line of cut relative to a portion of the workpiece to be cut, the cutting tool includes a cutter blade subjected to ultrasonic vibration as it cuts the portion of the workpiece, with a thermal control arranged to maintain the portion of the workpiece at a pre-selected temperature.
