A magneto-optical head including a lens forming a light spot on a storage disk, a magnetic field generating coil arranged between the lens and the disk to surround the optical center of the lens, and an annular heat sink arranged around the coil. The distance between the outer circumference of the coil and the inner circumference of the heat sink is 70&#x2013;100 &#x3bc;m.

Magneto-optical head and magneto-optical disk drive

An optical head includes a lens carrier movable at least radially of a magneto-optical disk in facing relation thereto. An object lens is mounted on the lens carrier to converge a laser beam for forming a laser spot on the disk. The object lens has an optical axis and includes a lens surface directed toward the disk. A patterned coil is formed on the lens surface at least in one layer and has a light-passing opening corresponding to the optical axis of the object lens. A light-pervious layer is formed on the lens surface for closing the light-passing opening of the coil.

Optical head having object lens and patterned coil

An optical head includes a lens holder for carrying a biconvex lens and a plano-convex lens above a data storage disk. In data-writing or data-reading operation, the plano-convex lens comes closer to the storage disk than the biconvex lens. The plano-convex lens is accommodated in a through-hole formed in the lens holder. The lower opening of the through-hole is closed by a transparent plate attached to the bottom surface of the lens holder. The flat lens surface of the plano-convex lens is held in close contact with the transparent plate.

Optical head and method of making the same

A magnetic head includes a dielectric member, a coil and a heat conductor. The dielectric member has an obverse surface held in facing relation to a data storage disk. The coil generates a required magnetic field. The coil is provided in the dielectric member or in the obverse surface of the dielectric member. The heat conductor absorbs heat generated by the coil. The heat conductor has a heat conductivity which is higher than that of the dielectric member. The heat conductor has a surface which is at least partially irregular.

A magneto-optical head includes a slider, an objective lens, a coil and a transparent insulating layer. The coil is provided with upper and lower conductive patterns, wherein the lower pattern is brought closer to a storage medium than the upper pattern is. The lower pattern is made smaller in inner diameter than the upper pattern. The insulating layer fills the center of the coil.

Magneto-optical head and method of making coil for the same

A data handling apparatus is provided which includes a rotatable disk provided with at least an innermost track and an outermost track for storing data, and a disk cartridge for housing the disk. The disk cartridge is formed with an opening for exposure of a portion of the disk. The opening is substantially symmetrical with respect to a first center line extending radially of the disk. The data handling apparatus also includes a slider floatable relative to the disk, and a driving mechanism for moving the slider relative to the disk along a transfer path. This transfer path and the first center line of the opening are arranged to be non-parallel to each other.

Data writing/reading apparatus

An optical head unit used for an optical disk apparatus is provided. The optical head unit includes an object glass assembly for focusing a laser beam from a light source on an optical disk, an actuator movable at least in a focus control direction, a carriage for supporting the actuator and moving the actuator in a track control direction, and a slider which is attached to the carriage and capable of adjusting its posture in relation to a surface of the optical disk. The object glass assembly is provided with a plurality of lens units. Each lens unit includes at least one lens. One of the plural lens units is supported by the slider.

Optical head unit for optical disk apparatus having both focus control and track control function

An air-bearing head slider for supporting an electromagnetic transducer opposite to a rotating recording media or magnetic disk. A slider body has a surface having a leading or air-entry side and a trailing or air-delivery side. Two rails are provided on the surface of the slider body and has floating surfaces opposite to the rotating magnetic disk for generating a floating force. The two side rails extend along a direction of air flow generated by the rotation of the magnetic disk and define a relatively shallow groove between these two rails. The groove has a width-enlarged portion at which the width of the groove is enlarged, so that a negative pressure is generated in such a manner that the slider body is attracted to the rotating magnetic disk. Inclined surfaces are formed on the air-entry sides of the floating surfaces of the rails. An inclination angle of the inclined surface is not more than 3.degree. and not less than 0.5.degree. and a length of the inclined surface is not less than 50 .mu.m and not more than a half of a length of the rails in the direction of air flow.
