A coating method is disclosed, which comprises coating a base coating paint on a substrate, coating thereon a clear coating paint of a curing system different from that of the base coating paint in a wet-on-wet state, and then baking the resultant coatings, wherein a curing catalyst for curing the clear coating paint is incorporated into the base coating paint and wherein the curing catalyst has a boiling point of 150.degree. C. or higher under 760 mmHg. The base coating paint comprising such a curing catalyst is also disclosed.

Method for forming coating and base coating paint used therefor

The present invention provides a curable resin composition incorporating an oligomer containing blocked hydroxyl group, an epoxy-group containing compound, hydrolytic silyl-group containing compound, and a dissociation catalyst and/or curing catalyst, each possessing a specific molecular weight; a paint which uses this resin composition as a binder; and a coat-finishing method which coat-finishes any desired material using the aforementioned resin composition and paint. According to the present invention, it is possible to reduce viscosity, and consequently increase the coat non-volatile content and hence improve acid resistance, abrasion resistance, and the like. In addition, according to the present invention, it is possible to obtain a curable resin composition, paint using this curable resin composition, and coat-finishing method for this paint in which the aforementioned resin and paint have an extremely high utility and possess a high solid content wherein air bubbles and drip-runs are not generated.

There are disclosed a high solids content resin composition excellent in solubility in an organic solvent, comprising an acrylic oligomer having a blocked hydroxyl group, a curing agent having a reactivity with a hydroxyl group and a dissociation or curing catalyst, and a high solids content type paint using the resin composition. There are also disclosed a coating process and a baking process comprising coating and baking the resin composition or the paint while rotating a material to be coated at an appropriate speed. The resin composition and the paint of the present invention have substantially no sagging and solvent popping. Further, the thus obtained paint film have improved smoothness, solvent resistance, weather resistance and resistance to scratching.

The present invention relates to a low solvent content type-coating composition which provides the resultant coating with improved surface appearance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, weathering resistance, scuff resistance and solvent resistance, while the content of an organic solvent of the coating composition can be much reduced to 0 to 30% at 25.degree. C. The low solvent content type-coating composition comprises a vinyl oligomer having a blocked carboxyl group and an additional group selected from an epoxy group, a silanol group, a hydrolyzable silyl group and an acid anhydride group. The vinyl oligomer has a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 600 to 2000, a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 600 to 5000, and a ratio of a weight average molecular weight/a number average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) of 1.0 to 2.5. The blocked carboxyl group and an additional group may be present in the same or different vinyl oligomers.

A magnetic paint and objects coated with same are disclosed, where the magnetic paint is characterized by comprising, as its essential components, a block copolymer and magnetic powder, said block copolymer having polyurethane and vinyl polymer segments. The magnetic paint of the present invention exhibits good dispersability of the magnetic powder, and good surface smoothness, durability, and wear resistance of the magnetic recording medium. Objects which may be appropriately coated with the magnetic paint of the present invention include high-quality magnetic recording media, such as magnetic tapes, magnetic cards, prepaid cards, magnetic disks and so on.

A macromolecular azo compound is produced by the reaction of a compound having at least 1 diazo linkage and at least 2 hydroxyl groups in a molecule, a compound having at least 2 isocyanate groups in a molecule and a compound having at least 2 hydroxyl groups in a molecule. A resin useful as a paint can be obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable unsaturated bond-containing monomer in the presence of this compound.
