A method of displaying a three-dimensional ('3D') image, the method includes determining a shutter electrode of an unit part included in a shutter panel as a left-eye electrode and a right-eye electrode, the unit part including 'n' shutter electrodes (herein, n is a natural number), selectively driving the left-eye electrode and the right-eye electrode as an opening part based on an image displayed on a display panel to transmit light through the opening part, and providing light transmitted through the opening part with an observer's two eyes through a lens plate, the lens plate including a plurality of lenses.

Method of displaying three dimensional image and three dimensional display apparatus for performing the method

A three-dimensional image display device includes a display panel that includes a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix shape; and a viewpoint divider that includes a plurality of viewpoint dividing units that are inclined at a tilt angle. Letting a row-directional pitch and a column-directional pitch of the pixels be respectively denoted as Hp and Vp, where Hp&#x3e;Vp, the tilt angle satisfies the following equation: where c is &#x2212;1 or 1, and b is a natural number that is greater than 1.

Three-dimensional image display device

A stereoscopic image display device includes a viewpoint division unit that divides an image displayed in a plurality of pixels into images that correspond to k viewpoints, wherein the viewpoint division unit comprises a plurality of viewpoint division units inclined with an inclination angle that satisfies where Hp denotes a pitch of a row direction of the pixels, Vp denotes a pitch of a column direction of the pixels, and m and b are natural numbers, and a number of first pixels arranged in an area defined by a unit of m&#xd7;b among a plurality of first pixels emitting light transmitting the same viewpoint division unit among the plurality of viewpoint division units is n=b+m&#x2212;1.

A 3D image display device includes: a display panel that includes a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix form; and a view point division part that divides the plurality of pixels into a plurality of corresponding view points. The view point division part includes a plurality of view point division units each associated with a lenticular lens tilted at an inclination angle and an inclination angle changing unit for changing the inclination angles of the plurality of the view point division units to correspond to a portrait mode or a landscape mode. The view point division part and the display panel are configured so that a same optimal viewing distance is calculated in portrait mode and landscape mode.

Three dimensional image display device

A stereoscopic image display device includes: a display panel including a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix format; and a viewpoint division unit dividing light of a left-eye image and light of a right-eye image displayed by the plurality of dots and transferring the divided light to a plurality of viewpoints corresponding to each dot, wherein the viewpoint division unit includes a plurality of openings and a light blocking unit, and when a horizontal directional width of each of the plurality of openings corresponds to an m number of dots (m is a natural number), a number dots of n adjacent in the horizontal direction displaying the left-eye image and the right-eye image is equal to n=2m+1 or n=2(m+1).

Stereoscopic image display device

A display apparatus may enable a viewer to perceive an image. The viewer has a right eye and a left eye, the right eye having a right pupil, the left eye having a left pupil. The display apparatus includes a display panel including a plurality of subpixels. The display apparatus further includes a position detecting part configured to detect a user location related to the viewer. The display apparatus further includes a light controlling element configured for transmitting light provided from one or more of the subpixels toward one or more of the right eye and the left eye. The display apparatus further includes a display panel driver configured to change subpixel-eye association for at least one of the subpixels in response to a change of the user location detected by the position detecting part.

Display apparatus and method for enabling perception of three-dimensional  images

A three-dimensional image display device including a dot displaying viewpoint images and a viewpoint forming unit. The dot displays first and second color images respectively having first and second colors of a first viewpoint image among the viewpoint images during a first sub-frame, and displays a third color image having a third color of the first viewpoint image during a second sub-frame. The viewpoint forming unit includes viewpoint forming devices, which are positioned at a first position during the first sub-frame to project the first and second color images on a viewing zone corresponding to the first viewpoint image, and positioned at a second position during the second sub-frame to project the third color image on the viewing zone.

A three-dimensional image display device includes a display panel including M&#xd7;N pixels arranged in M rows by N columns, displaying kn viewpoint images, and configured to display a color image using L primary colors. The display panel also includes a viewpoint forming unit including L viewpoint forming devices arranged in a row direction and configured to separate the kn viewpoint images at different angles to project the kn viewpoint images on corresponding viewing zones.

A display apparatus includes a display panel and an active parallax barrier panel. The display panel displays n numbers of viewpoint images on a display panel ('n' is natural numbers greater than 2). The active parallax barrier panel includes a plurality of barrier units. Each of the barrier units includes an opening portion and a blocking area divided into m numbers of sub-areas. The active parallax barrier panel selectively opens the m numbers of sub-areas to exit the m numbers of viewpoint images on (n&#xd7;m) numbers of viewpoint positions ('m' is natural numbers greater than 2). Thus, an active parallax barrier panel is time-division driven to display multi-viewpoint images. Moreover, a pixel structure and a barrier structure are alerted, so that deterioration of a resolution of a 3D image may be minimized.

Method of displaying 3D image and display apparatus for performing the method

A time multiplexing multi-view point three dimensional image display device includes a display panel that includes a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix form, where each pixel displays one color of a plurality of primary colors, and a view point division unit that divides the 3D image displayed by the display panel into two or more view points. The display panel includes a plurality of dots, each dot includes a set of pixels in which each pixel shows a different primary color. Each dot displays a 3D image for a view point during a frame set that includes a plurality of frames. The view point division unit moves in a row direction when the frame changes in the frame set, and at least one pixel one of the dot is selected in each frame of the frame set.

Three dimensional image display device and method of displaying three dimensional image

A display panel includes a transmit-control portion and a light blocking portion. The pixel-transmit portion may include a pair of first sides and a pair of second sides and transmitting light, the pair of the first sides being inclined with respect to a horizontal-axis direction and substantially parallel with each other, the pair of the second sides being inclined with respect to a vertical-axis direction and substantially parallel with each other. The blocking portion may surround the pixel-transmit portion and block the light.

Display panel and display apparatus having the same

A 3-dimensional image display device includes: a backlight unit; a barrier panel above the backlight unit and including unit barriers which selectively blocks light; a lenticular lens array above the barrier panel and including lenticular lenses, each having a principal point; a liquid crystal panel above the lenticular lens array; an eye tracking sensor which detects a position of eyes of a viewer and a distance between the principal point of the lenticular lenses and the eyes; and a controller which controls the backlight unit, the barrier panel and the liquid crystal panel based on an output of the eye tracking sensor, where the controller turns on and off the unit barriers such that light passes through the principal point of the lenticular lenses to apply a right-eye image to a right eye of the viewer and apply a left-eye image to a left eye of the viewer.
