A cable tether for computer and adapter security and theft Prevention. The cable tether has one or two loops at each end of the cable with a crimp-able metal sleeve. The end of the cable is attached to the sleeve forming the end of the loop while the cable loops back through the sleeve forming an adjustable loop. This end of the cable can slide within the sleeve. The loop is placed around the item to be protected or secured and cannot be removed. The loop is then pulled tight by pulling the cable through the sleeve. Once it is tight enough that sleeve is crimped against the cable holding it in place and forming a secure loop. This can be done at the other end to secure the item to a base, table or computer protecting it from getting lost or taken.

A fuel filter for removing fuel impurities, particularly thiophenes, includes a hollow housing having a filter element therein. The filter element includes a substrate, which may include a nonwoven fiber web, a plurality of particles, or both of these. Where particles are used, the substrate may be homogeneous or may be a mixture of different particles. The substrate may include a sorbent selected from the group consisting of metals, metal oxides, metallic salts, organometallic compounds, catalysts, and oxidizing agents. Optionally, a sulfur-treating reactant may be operatively associated with the substrate to reduce the concentration of thiophenes in fuel passing through the filter.

An improved oil conditioning filter, for use with an internal combustion engine, includes a mechanically active filter element and a chemically active filter element having a reactive basic conditioner therein. The reactive basic conditioner is provided to counteract acidic combustion products in lubricating oil in an internal combustion engine. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the chemically active conditioning agent is provided in a plurality of pellets disposed within the oil filter housing. The pellets may be bonded together to form an integral porous filter element having spaces defined between the pellets thereof. The pellets are made of a mixture including a polymeric binder and the chemically active conditioning agent, in a defined weight ratio and in a narrow range of particle sizes. The chemically active filter element reacts with acids present in the oil to form a product which may be filtered out of the oil. The pellets are made either by a hot extrusion process or by a solvent process.

An improved oil conditioning filter, for use with an internal combustion engine, includes a mechanically active filter element and a chemically active filter element containing a beneficial additive therein. The beneficial additive is provided to extend the useful life of lubricating oil in an internal combustion engine. The beneficial additive may include an antioxidant, an anti-wear agent, and/or a basic salt. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the chemically active conditioning agent is provided in a plurality of particles disposed within the oil filter housing. The particles may be bonded together to form an integral porous filter element having spaces defined between the particles thereof. The particles are made either by a hot extrusion process or by a solvent process.

A clutch dust filtration apparatus, for filtering solid particles out of a mixture of air and suspended solids, includes a conduit member, a collection vessel, and a filter member. The conduit member includes a hollow transfer tube and a transverse collar extending outwardly from the transfer tube. The collection vessel has an open end and a closed end, and is indirectly connected to the conduit member. The outlet of the conduit member is spaced away from the closed end of the collection vessel. The filter member is attached to the collection vessel. Incoming air from the conduit member is required to make a sharp turn, in order to exit the apparatus via the filter member. This sharp turn causes solid material to drop out of the mixture and to be collected in the collection vessel.

Clutch dust filter apparatus, and method of using same

A filter material includes a filter pad made from a thin, nonwoven fiber mat which has been accordion-pleated, compressed into a unit having a large number of substantially parallel interconnected filter strips, and treated to retain the filter strips in substantially parallel relation to each other. In a preferred embodiment, activated carbon particles are operatively associated with the filter pad. Selected fibers of the nonwoven fiber material are hollow fibers, each having an outer surface, a hollow internal cavity, and an extended slot formed therein, between the hollow internal cavity and the outer fiber surface. Carbon particles may be located between selected filter strips, and additional carbon particles may be disposed within the cavities of the hollow fibers. Methods of forming the filter material, and a filter element made with the filter material are also disclosed.

Accordion-pleated filter material and filter element incorporating same

Modification, neutralization and/or decontamination of airborne biological and/or chemical contaminants from a breathable atmosphere by subjecting the breathable atmosphere to a filter which is formed from a plurality of polymeric multilobal fibers. These fibers include a central core with T-shaped lobes projecting therefrom, wherein each T-shaped lobe has a leg and a cap. The lobes define a longitudinally extending internal cavity between two adjacent legs that extends the entire length of the fiber. The filter is impregnated with a biological and/or chemical decontamination reagent for chemically modifying, neutralizing and/or decontaminating airborne biological and/or chemical contaminants from a breathable atmosphere. A filter projection preferably extends into an external reservoir containing a supply of biological and/or chemical decontamination reagent. This configuration increases the capacity and efficiency of the filter, and causes a lower pressure differential across the filter.

An oil-conditioning filter, for use with an internal combustion engine, includes a mechanically active filter element and a chemically active filter element. The chemically active filter element has a beneficial oil conditioning agent contained in a plurality of porous additive-dispensing modules. Each of the additive-dispensing modules includes a hollow housing having a plurality of holes formed therein, and a beneficial oil additive disposed within the housing. Optionally, each additive-dispensing module may also include a porous or semi-porous polymeric membrane covering the housing, to control the rate at which the additive material diffuses outwardly therefrom.

A fibrous element is described. The fibrous element includes a container member and an anti-microbial agent, wherein the anti-microbial agent is disposed within the container member. The container member can include structures such as an elongated fiber having multiple lobes with a longitudinally extending internal cavity including an opening from the internal cavity to the outer fiber formed between adjacent lobes, an elongated fiber having an internal longitudinally extending cavity having a longitudinally extending opening, and a particulate. The anti-microbial agent is capable of diffusing out of the container member and throughout the fibrous element in response to elevated relative humidity levels in order to contact and kill a microbial population.

A battery separator, for placement between conductive plates within a battery, includes a non-woven fiber mat made up of one or more nonwoven fibers, which have a specific cross-sectional shape and exhibit a microcapillary action. The fibers are preferred to be made of a thermoplastic selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, fluoropolymers, polyimides, polysulfones, polyesters, polyamides, and mixtures thereof Each of the fibers includes an outer surface, a hollow internal cavity, and an extended slot. The hollow internal cavity communicates with the outer surface by way of the extended slot. Capillary forces within the fibers are greater than those on the fiber surface, such that a liquid electrolyte readily moves through the interior of the fiber via a wicking action. As a result, the battery separator tends to direct fluid to adjacent battery plates even when an electrolyte level, within the battery, drops below the tops of the plates.

A filter, for use in removing residual fuel vapors from within an engine's intake system, includes a filter element having a plurality of fibers, for placement in communication with an intake air flow passage. Each of the fibers has an internal cavity formed therein, and a longitudinally extending slot formed therein extending from the internal cavity to the outer fiber surface. The filter also includes a hydrocarbon-absorbing material disposed within the internal cavities of the fibers. The hydrocarbon-absorbing material may be a solid material such as, e.g., carbon, or may be a liquid such as a relatively non-volatile organic solvent. Alternatively, the material may be a combined solid and liquid. In one embodiment, each of the elongated fibers includes a central stem and a plurality of lobes extending outwardly from the central stem, with a longitudinally extending slot defined between adjacent lobes. Specific useful filter configurations are detailed.

Vapor-adsorbent filter for reducing evaporative fuel emissions, and method of using same

A regenerable desiccant filter assembly, for use in a vehicle lamp housing, includes a hollow body defining a chamber therein, the hollow body having an inlet and an outlet formed therein to allow air to flow from an area outside said hollow body into and through the hollow body. A substrate, which is a nonwoven fiber mat, is housed within the hollow body; and a regenerable liquid desiccant composition is distributed on the substrate. Preferably, the fibers making up the substrate have hollow internal cavities formed therein, and extended openings formed in the sides thereof in communication with the internal cavities. Preferably, the desiccant composition is an alkali halide or an alkaline earth halide. Most preferably the desiccant composition is selected from the group consisting of lithium chloride, calcium chloride and magnesium chloride. In specific embodiments, the desiccant filter may be combined with a bulb shield or with a bulb socket member. A method of dehydrating air flowing into a ventilation opening in a vehicle lamp housing, using the inventive apparatus, is also disclosed.
