Dynamic method and apparatus for controlling device temperature during continuous transmissions

A transceiver (107) operates in a TDMA communication system (100) with a primary server (102) and at least one other potential server (103). The transceiver (107) has defined transmit slots and defined receive slots for communication with the primary server. Mandatory transmit slots are identified from among the defined transmit slots according to a particular specification. The transceiver schedules signal quality measurements for the potential server based at least in part on the particular specification for identifying mandatory transmit slots (400).

An electronic device (100) includes an attached door cover (150) having a speaker (160) with an integral speaker magnet (165) that is used as an actuator for a magnetically enable switch (130) positioned within the housing (115) of the electronic device (100). The door cover (150) is movable between a first position adjacent to the housing (115), and a second position having at least a portion of the door cover (150) away from the housing (115) and the switch (130) is actuated magnetically by the speaker magnet (165) when the door cover (150) is in the first position. Preferably, the speaker magnet (165) helps to latch the door cover (150) closed. Additionally, the door cover (150) is preferably detachable from the housing (115) of the electronic device (100) and is user replaceable.

A battery charging unit communicates with an operational device while contemporaneously charging a battery to power the device. The device provides information to the charging unit indicating its present operational status, which enables the charging unit to determine the magnitude of the proper charging current under such operating conditions. In this way, battery life is maximized while battery charging time is minimized.

A system for radio-telephone communication between a user at a remote location and the commercial telephone system or between two users at remote locations comprises a fixed terminal that is connected by wire lines or the like to the commercial telephone system and a plurality of portable radio units. The terminal is equipped for duplex operation on a plurality of channels, each of which uses separate frequency bands for transmitting and receiving. Each of the portable units is a simplex transceiver adapted to receive on each of the frequencies of transmission from the terminal and to broadcast on each of the frequencies received by the terminal. The terminal places a channel acquisition tone on an unused channel that is the next to be used. The terminal calls portable unit by shifting channel acquisition tone to another channel and broadcasting an identifier to the portable unit. The called portable unit responds to its individual identifier by sounding an audible alert and producing an audible verbal message if one is sent from the terminal. A portable can also originate a message by calling the terminal. A delay period provides time for the portable to recognize its identifier before beginning to scan for channel acquisition tone. Circuits and logic in the portable produce a busy signal if the user attempts to call at a time when the portable is not receiving channel acquisition tone. A reset in the portable unit provides means for the user to terminate the call.

A circuit for checking a plurality of impedances having a common connection point as for use in an emergency medical ratio, where the impedance of each ECG electrode contact is automatically and sequentially checked during the initial calibration transmission, using the AC non-polarizing signal which is also used as the ECG subcarrier for the medical data telemetry. The ECG telemetry calibration signal is also processed to provide a sequential switching control. Poor electrode contacts are indicated visually to the paramedic in charge and thus can be corrected before ECG telemetry begins.
