An indicator light apparatus having two terminals, one of the terminals being connected to the common or ground circuit of an electrostatic spray gun, preferably by connection to a grounded spray gun handle, the other terminal being placed in the proximity of the electrostatic field generated by the spray gun, so as to collect voltage charges emitted from the high voltage electrode of the spray gun and to conduct these charges to ground through the light indicator, which is typically a neon light or the like. The presence of electrostatic high voltage causes sufficient current flow through a light indicator to illuminate the light and provide an indication that the high voltage circuits are operating properly.

A spray gun is designed for mounting on the end of a robot arm. The construction of the gun is provided such that nearly all of the main components with the exception of the spray head itself are located in a main body to which is mounted a pivotal spray head assembly which may pivot approximately 90.degree. to either side of the normal straight-ahead position. The power supply and power generating units are located in the main body. The electrostatic power supply connection to the spray head enters the spray head shaft on the opposite side from the fluid supply entry. The fluid control valve may be located in the spray head shaft.

A plurality of stages of capacitors and diodes interconnected in a parallel wired Cockcroft-Walton multiplier circuit, wherein capacitors in successive stages of the circuit are constructed of reduced physical size as compared with preceding stages, corresponding to reduced capacitor voltage ratings, to provide a cascade multiplier circuit of reduced total length.

Apparatus is disclosed for resistively damping capacitively stored energy in electrostatic spray guns, wherein a fluid spray valve incorporates an electrode for carrying high electrostatic voltage, the electrode terminating in the spray valve and the spray valve having a conductor contacting the electrode and extending externally thereof. A resistive element at least partially encloses the spray valve and electrically contacts the conductor, permitting electrical conductivity while also permitting axial sliding movement of the spray valve inside of the resistive element.

Energy damping device for spray gun

An electrostatic spray gun having a rotatable voltage generator for providing electrical energy at low voltage for conversion within the spray gun into electrostatic high voltage energy, wherein a rotating voltage generator is driven by an air turbine under the influence of a pressurized input air supply, the pressurized air passing through conduits in the handle of the spray gun, an air valve actuated by a trigger, an air flow regulator, and into impinging contact against rotatable turbine blades. The air supply is exhausted from the spray gun through internal passages which provide cooling air to the electrical components within the spray gun, and through further passages opening from the bottom of the spray gun handle which minimize the audible noise caused by such air flow.

Apparatus for connecting to a paint or liquid spray gun, including an electronic sensor element in close proximity to the spray tip with an electronic circuit for generating an electric drive signal for energizing and deenergizing a solenoid which is mechanically coupled to trigger disabling relation to the spray gun actuating trigger.
