A gravity operated locking device and method of operation are disclosed for use with an orthotic brace of a type having upper and lower members hinged together for articulation of the brace with flexion and extension of a limb joint, the locking device comprising a housing adapted for ready attachment to or ready detachment from a portion of the brace, preferably the upper brace member, and forming a groove extending along the length of the housing for receiving a drop bolt tapered at its lower end for riding over and locking into engagement with a projecting stop surface on the lower brace member. The drop bolt is preferably formed with an elongated slot captured by a portion of an attachment means for the brace. The locking device may include an overriding lock for securing the brace in either a fixed, fully extended condition or free for articulation. With the overriding lock released, the drop bolt may be manually operated for selectively permitting either articulated or locked operation of the brace.

A polycentric variable axis pivotal hinge system especially designed and adaptable to follow the complex movement of the knee when incorporated in orthotic devices, having an upper and a lower extension overlying a central linking member and pivotally connected thereto wherein each extension moves in a relative angular motion determined by the coaction of a guide pin follower slidably and pivotally interacting with slots in the angular terminal portions of the extensions and the guide pin follower moving in a vertical slot in the central member; with provision for motion limiting stops.

The present invention relates to an apparatus for hanging an item from vehicles comprising an elongated rigid bracket arm for removably rigidly attaching to a window channel of the vehicle at a first end, an elongated rigid support arm the lower end resiliently contacting the side or window of the vehicle, the second end sharing a common pivot or hinge with the bracket arm, and an elongated extension arm the support end for hanging an item, such as a lantern; and the lower end sharing a common pivot or hinge with the bracket arm and support arm; and when folded together the three arms fold into each other for easy storage and easy unfolding for installation on the vehicle.

The present invention is an apparatus for hanging lanterns from vehicles comprising an elongated bracket arm having a securing means disposed at a first end for cooperation with the first end to rigidly attach the bracket arm to the vehicle, a rod having a first end with means thereon disposed for resiliently contacting a side of the vehicle and having a portion of the rod engaging a second end of the bracket arm remote from the first end and a support means disposed between the bracket arm and rod for supporting at least the first end of the rod.
