An electroforming system and method for electroforming a component that includes a first housing and a second housing, where the second housing can define a conformable electroforming reservoir with a base structure. An electrically insulating sheet covers at least a portion of the base structure and defines a fluid passage where the component is to be located.

A thermal insulation system for an aerospace duct through which high temperature fluid, greater than 500 F, passes. The thermal insulation system can experience pressures less than 80 kilopascals and can be included in a turbine engine. The thermal insulation system includes at least a first foil layer confronting the duct, an insulation layer confronting the first foil layer, a second foil layer confronting the insulation layer, and at least one coating applied to any one of the layers.

A forming manifold and method for electroforming a component, including providing an electroforming cathode disposed within a first bath tank having a solution with a first metal ion concentration, overlaying at least a portion of the electroforming cathode with a forming manifold having a housing and applying a voltage to the electroforming cathode while disposed within the first bath tank.

Device and method for forming electroformed component

An apparatus and method for a mandrel used during an electroforming process. The mandrel is formed of a structural wax and includes a metallic layer utilized to formulate a metal component. During the electroforming process, the mandrel is actively cooled utilizing a closed loop. The closed loop includes the mandrel and a heat exchanger through which a coolant flows.

A strengthened component includes a sacrificial material mold of the component having an outer surface, an insert having an inner surface and an outer surface opposite and spaced from the inner surface such that the strengthening insert inner surface abuts the mold outer surface, and a metallic layer deposited over the exposed mold outer surface and the exposed strengthening insert outer surface, where the sacrificial material mold is removed from the strengthened component.

The first housing can include a dissolution reservoir containing an electrolytic fluid that is fluidly coupled to the fluid passage of the second housing.

Nickel-cobalt materials, methods of forming a nickel-cobalt material, and methods of thermally stabilizing a nickel-cobalt material are provided. A nickel-cobalt material may include a metal matrix composite with amorphous regions and crystalline regions substantially encompassed by a nanocrystalline grain structure with a grain size distribution of about 50 nanometers to about 800 nanometers, and the nanocrystalline grain structure may include widespread intragranular twinning. The metal matrix composite may have a chemical makeup that includes nickel, cobalt, and a dopant such as phosphorus and/or boron. A nickel-cobalt material may be heat treated within a first temperature zone below the onset temperature for grain growth and then within a second temperature zone above the onset temperature for grain growth in the material. Chemical composition and heat treatment may yield a thermally stabilized nickel-cobalt material.

A duct assembly may include a first duct, a second duct, and a flexible joint assembly coupling the first duct to the second duct. The flexible joint assembly may include a bellows having a first end and a second end and a plurality of convolutions located therebetween, and a gimbaled joint assembly. The gimbaled joint assembly may include a first support surrounding the first end of the bellows and a first portion of the plurality of convolutions, a second support surrounding the second end of the bellows and a second portion of the plurality of convolutions, and a gimbal ring assembly operably coupled to the first support and the second support. The gimbal ring assembly may include a ring body and a plurality of flexure hinges interconnected with the ring body.

An electroformed heat exchanger suitable for use between rotating blades and seals in a stationary casing of a turbine engine. The heat exchanger comprising a non-electroformed carrier plate having a radial outer surface and a radial outer surface, an electroformed duct provided along the radial outer surface, an electroformed rail provided on the radial inner surface, and an electroformed stiffener formed by a portion of the electroformed duct and the electroformed rail.

A nickel-cobalt material and component includes a thermally stabilized nickel-cobalt alloy. The nickel-cobalt alloy disclosed herein includes nanocrystalline grain structures, pinning, such as Zener pinning, and intragranular twinning. The nickel-cobalt alloy disclosed herein exhibits multiple properties including an improved fracture toughness, an increased thermal stability, and an improved ultimate tensile strength.

A gas turbine engine guide vane heat exchanger has guide vane heat exchanger including electroformed fluid channels in electroformed heat exchanger tubes or a heat exchanger core disposed within airfoil. Non-flammable heat conducting liquid or non-metallic foam may fill space between tubes or core and airfoil. Fluid circuit may include channels within electroformed heat exchanger tubes or the heat exchanger core and extend from inlet manifold to outlet manifold for directing fluid or oil through channels and include fluid or oil supply inlet connected to inlet manifold for receiving the fluid or oil flowed into inlet manifold and a fluid or oil supply outlet connected to fluid or oil supply outlet for discharging fluid or oil flowed out of fluid or oil outlet manifold. Heat exchanger tubes or heat exchanger core, inlet manifold, outlet manifold, supply inlet and supply outlet may be integrally and monolithically electroformed together.

OGV electroformed heat exchangers

An apparatus and method of forming a hybrid heat exchanger including a first manifold defining a first fluid inlet and a second manifold defining a second fluid inlet. A monolithic core body includes a first set of flow passages in fluid communication with the first manifold and a second set of flow passages is in communication with the second manifold. At least a portion of the first manifold or the second manifold has a tunable coefficient of thermal expansion that is less than a coefficient of thermal expansion of the structurally rigid monolithic core.
