A robot gripper has a housing having at least one flexible chamber, at least one finger channel, and at least one column channel; a finger configured to insert within the finger channel; and at least one column having a base with one or more ports, a conduit in communication with the ports, and one or more column apertures for access to the conduit; wherein the at least one column is configured to insert within the at least one column channel with the one or more column apertures aligning with the one or more flexible chambers such that the flexible chambers are in fluid communication with the conduit. As fluid enters a first set of chambers, the chambers expand, thereby pivoting the fingers attached thereto on a pivot point, bringing the working end of the fingers closer together.

A seal assembly for a groove or seal gland in a relatively displaceable machine part for sealing an axial machine part extending therethrough comprises a pair of annular seal elements and a support element disposed between the annular elements and radially extending wall of said groove. The annular seal elements have an axial slot therein and a key portion extending therefrom, shaped to engage the axial slot. The seal elements are arranged in an inverted nesting relationship to provide superior sealing characteristics when biased toward the machine part by said support element.

A seal assembly for a shaft comprises one or more annular sealing elements having an initial internal diameter larger than the diameter of the shaft. The elements are deformed by a pair of annular backup rings disposed on opposite sides thereof. The backup rings have opposed axially extending undulations therein for effecting axial deformation and radial contraction of the sealing elements upon advancement of the backup rings toward one another.

High pressure rotary shaft seal

A two element, high and low pressure seal assembly to be used in a hydraulic or pneumatic sealing environment between two relatively movable machine parts, the seal assembly comprising a spring element, circular or rectangular in cross-section and made of a relatively soft elastomeric material, and spring element being substantially contiguously surrounded along all but a small exposed area and contained within an annular slot of a house-shaped elastomeric annular sealing member whereby an integral assembly is formed for easy installation and unitary response. The house-shaped sealing element comprises a central body from which two anti-extrusion legs radially extend. The legs are located fore and aft of the spring element within an annular peripheral groove in one machine part and are disposed perpendicular or radial to the axis of said machine part. Projecting radially beyond said machine part is a convergingly tapered gabled surface defining a central apex or tip portion, said tip portion creating a narrow band contact dynamic seal area between the apex per se and the second machine part when the seal assembly is in said machine part groove and compressed between the two machine parts. The sealing element may project either radially inwardly or radially outwardly from the spring element. The axial dimension of the entire seal assembly is slightly smaller than the axial dimension of the machine groove.

Seal assembly

A two element, high and low pressure seal assembly to be used in a hydraulic or pneumatic sealing environment between two relatively movable machine parts, the seal assembly comprising an anti-extrusion spring element illustrated as generally rectangular in cross-section but including a projecting annular tongue and made of a relatively soft elastomeric material, the projecting tongue of said spring element contiguously engaging the entire surface of the base with the annular tongue being contained within an annular slot of a U-shaped elastomeric annular sealing member whereby the two member assembly functions jointly, and accommodates easy installation. The mating interface between the parts assure reliable unitary response but simultaneously provides a flex site at said interface which yieldingly resists imposed forces without fluid leakage. The U-shaped sealing element comprises a central body from which two anti-extrusion legs radially extend. The legs are located fore and aft of the tongue element within an annular peripheral groove in one machine part and are disposed perpendicularly or radially to the axis of said machine part. Projecting radially beyond said machine part is a convergingly tapered surface defining a central vertex or apex, said vertex creating a narrow contact dynamic seal area between the apex per se and the second machine part when the seal assembly is in said machine part groove and compressed between the two machine parts. The sealing member may project either radially inwardly or radially outwardly from the spring element. The axial dimension of the entire seal assembly is slightly smaller than the axial dimension of the machine groove thereby creating the mentioned dynamic narrow seal area between the apex of the sealing element and the second machine part, one static seal between the base of the anti-extrusion spring element and the base of the groove and between one radially directed sidewall of the machine groove and the contiguous anti-extrusion leg of the sealing element and one side wall of the spring element.

Single apex two element fluid pressure seal assembly

A mud pump piston comprising an annular elastomeric ring having an annular circumferential surface defining an acute angle circumferential tip of relatively small area which engages the pump cylinder wall and an annular anti-extrusion ring connected to and displaceable with the elastomeric ring, the elastomeric ring being configurated to correspond with and rest against a dish shaped surface of the anti-extrusion ring presenting a bevelled or diagonal slope extending from the outside diameter (acute to the axis of the mud pump piston) spanning substantially more than half of the radial distance occupied by the annular elastomeric ring and the annular anti-extrusion ring, which diagonal surface merges with a flat surface normal to the axis of the mud pump piston whereby hydro-planing is reduced because of the increased unit pressure load on the small tip area, along a line contact, the tip is automatically wear compensating, friction is substantially reduced by reason of the smaller high pressure wipe area, longer piston life is attained with improved wear characteristics and less maintenance.

An interference compression seal comprising a delta-shaped seal of relatively soft elastomeric material adapted to be placed in a groove between relatively moving machine parts with the apex of the delta directed radially outwardly creating a line seal and a pair of somewhat triangularly shaped anti-extrusion rings of rigid synthetic resinous material respectively engaging one of the sloped or bevelled surfaces (diagonal sides) of the delta-shaped seal.
