A surgical system includes a tool for engaging a target site, a navigation system including a localizer to track states of trackers, a patient tracker for attachment relative to the target site, a robotic arm to maintain alignment of the tool, and an end effector attached to the robotic arm to support the tool. The end effector includes an end effector tracker having markers each including a body having an inner bore surface defining a bore between an inlet and an outlet, a light module supported adjacent to the inlet and arranged to emit light into reflection with the inner bore surface, and a diffuser supported adjacent to the outlet to diffuse light reflected by the inner bore surface, the diffuser having an output surface arranged to present diffused light across the output surface detectable by the localizer of the navigation system to enable tracking states of the end effector.

Robotic surgical system with end effector marker diffusers

A surgical system including a patient tracker and a tracking system. The patient tracker is adapted for attachment to a patient, and includes a hybrid marker having a radiological marker contained within an optical marker. The tracking system tracks the hybrid marker. A computing device obtains a three-dimensional image of a patient's anatomy and the attached patient tracker; identifies a three-dimensional portion of the hybrid marker within a scan volume; determines a location of the hybrid marker within the scan volume based on the identified three-dimensional portion; tracks the location of the hybrid marker in three-dimensional space using the tracking system while the patient tracker remains fixed to the patient; and registers the three-dimensional image in three-dimensional space based on a known geometric relationship between the location of the hybrid marker within the scan volume and the location of the hybrid marker in three-dimensional space.

A system includes a patient support and an outer gantry on which an accelerator is mounted to enable the accelerator to move through a range of positions around a patient on the patient support. The accelerator is configured to produce a proton or ion beam having an energy level sufficient to reach a target in the patient. The mobile support system further includes a mechanism coupled to the carriage and configured to cause movement of the carriage, a set of wheels coupled to the housing and a support arm coupled to the carriage and extending vertically upward from the top surface of the housing. The support arm is configured to support the arm of the medical device. The mobile support system also includes a mounting block coupled to the carriage proximate to the support arm, the mounting block configured to couple with the base of the arm of the medical device, a first rail detect guide located on the top surface at the second end of the housing and a second rail detect guide located on the top surface at the second end of the housing. The first rail detect guide and the second rail detect guide are configured to unlock the mechanism used to cause movement of the carriage when contact is made between the first rail detect guide and the second rail detect guide and a surface.

Mobile support and storage system for a medical device

An electrical pop out device has a shroud and an outlet housing. The outlet housing is sized to be placed inside the shroud. A guidance mechanism connects the outlet housing with the shroud. The guidance mechanism includes multiple rack gears and multiple pinion gears. The outlet housing is moveable with respect to the shroud along a direction defined by the rack gear. A spring connector electrically couples the shroud to the outlet housing.
