It is intended to provide a vehicle comprising a fluid working machine which can reduce wear of parts and be produced at low cost. The fluid working machineis provided with an eccentric cam, a pistonA toF, a cylinderA toF, a drive rodA-F having an engaging partengaging with the piston and a contact partcontacting the eccentric cam, a holding memberA toF surrounding the drive rod, a pressing memberA toF for pressing up the holding member in a radially outward direction, and at least one holding ringfor holding the holding member from the outside.

Vehicle

A fluid working machine has at least one working chamber of cyclically varying volume and low and high pressure valves to regulate the flow of working fluid into and out of the working chamber, from low and high pressure manifolds. The low and high pressure valves are actuated by electronically controlled valve actuation means which, when actuated, applies forces to the low and high pressure valve members to open and/or close the respective valves. The low and high pressure valve members are independently moveable and, although the low pressure valve member typically begins to move quickly in response to a shared valve control signal, the high pressure valve member typically moves only after a change in the pressure within the working chamber. The electronically controlled valve actuation means may be a shared electronically controlled valve actuator, such as a solenoid within a magnetic circuit which directs magnetic flux through both low pressure and high pressure valve armatures which are connected to the respective valve members.

Fluid working machine with valve actuator and method for controlling the same

In a face sealing annular valve, an annular valve member is retained around or within a guide. The annular valve member is configured so that, when the annular valve member and the annular valve seat are coaxial, the spacing between the guide means and the guide-engaging surface region increases with distance along the central axis from a minimum of spacing between the annular valve member and the guide means. An end stop limits the tilt of the annular valve member. Advantageously, the annular valve member has restricted radial movement, enabling a good seal to be formed, while being unable to simultaneously contact diametrically opposite sides of the guide and jam.

Face sealing annular valve

A face sealing annular valve () for a fluid-working machine has an annular valve member () having a relaxed configuration in which a first seat-engaging surface () of the annular valve member can sealedly engage with a first sealing surface of an annular valve seat (), but a second seat-engaging surface () cannot sealedly engage with a second sealing surface (), and is elastically deformable to a deformed configuration in which the second seat-engaging surface can sealedly engage with a second sealing surface, while the first seat-engaging surface remains sealedly engaged with the first sealing surface. The annular valve member can be made with relatively high tolerances and is only loosely retained by a guide in the relaxed configuration.

Face sealing annular valve for a fluid-working machine

An electronically actuatable valve assembly having a primary face seating valve, including a primary valve member, and a secondary valve, including a secondary valve member. The secondary valve opens before the primary valve to equilibrate pressure across the primary valve member and thereby facilitate opening of the primary valve member. The secondary valve is coupled to an armature which moves from a first position to a second position, in use, attracted by an electromagnet. The coupling between the armature and the secondary valve is configured to enable the armature to begin to move from the first position without movement of the secondary valve. The armature has therefore moved from the first position, closer to the electromagnet, when the secondary valve is opened by way of the forces exerted through the coupling between the armature and the secondary valve member, and so a greater force can be exerted to open the secondary valve than would be the case if the secondary valve member was fixedly coupled to the armature.

An electronically actuatable valve assembly including a valve member comprising a ferromagnetic member, and a magnetic circuit adapted to direct magnetic flux through the ferromagnetic member when the valve member is spaced apart from its valve seat, to hold the primary valve open.
