Terminals are disclosed having at least one first connection port intended for mating with a first connector footprint and at least one second connection port intended for mating with a second connector footprint where the second connection port inhibits the damaging insertion of the external connector suitable for the first connection port. For instance, terminals may have at least one single-fiber connection port that can receive and optically mate with a single-fiber plug connector, and at least one multi-fiber optical connection port that can receive and optically mate with a multi-fiber plug connector and inhibits the damaging insertion of the non-compatible single-fiber connector into the multi-fiber optical connection port if mistakenly attempted by the technician. Other embodiments may include a modular adapter sub-assembly for the first connection port or the second connection port.

Female fiber optic connectors having a connection port opening for receiving a fiber optic plug and cable assemblies comprising the female fiber optic connector along with methods of making the same. The female fiber optic connectors comprise an actuator such as a rocker latch arm used for releasing or securing an external fiber optic plug that may be received in the connection port. A main barrel of the female fiber optic connector comprises a connection port suitable for receiving an external fiber optic plug connector. The female fiber optic connectors disclosed advantageously allow for an quick and easy connection with an external fiber optic plug connector for ruggedized or other desired applications. Methods for terminating the optical fibers of a cable to the female fiber optic connector for forming cable assemblies are also disclosed.

Multifiber connector for making optical connections

The present disclosure relates to a process by which an optical fiber drop cable is created and routed in a multiple dwelling unit ('MDU'). The optical fiber drop cable is formed with a feeding tool, and the optical fiber drop cable includes a tube having optical fibers enclosed within the tube. The feeding tool creates a slit within the tube through which optical fibers are fed and thereby inserted into the tube along the tube's length. Once the tube exits the feeding tool with the optical fibers enclosed (thereby forming the optical fiber drop cable), the optical fiber drop cable is then routed into an individual dwelling unit of the MDU by a transition assembly including a transition plug and a routing plug that leads an optical fiber from an exterior of the individual dwelling unit to a subscriber termination point in an interior of the individual dwelling unit.

Multifiber invisible optical drop cable and methods for routing optical fibers within a multi-dwelling unit

A mode coupling connector system that includes a first and second fiber connector each coupled to a coupler housing. The first and second fiber connectors are positioned in first and second receiving cavities of the coupler housing, respectively. The first and second fiber connector each have a ferrule with a fiber receiving hole extending from an outer end to an inner end of the ferrule. The fiber receiving hole of the first and second fiber connector are in axial alignment. The mode coupling connector system further includes a mode coupling plate having a phase mask array of a plurality of phase masks. The mode coupling plate is positioned in a plate receiving hole of the coupler housing between the first and second receiving cavity and at least two phase masks of the phase mask array are circumscribed by the fiber receiving hole of both the first and second fiber connector.

An optical adaptor for mounting to a receptacle to optically couple connectorized opticable cables comprises an assembly of an optical interface to provide an optical path between a first and a second one of the connectorized optical cables to optically couple the first and the second connectorized optical cable. The assembly of the optical interface comprises a mounting element to mount the optical adaptor to the receptacle. The mounting element is configured to receive the assembly of the optical interface and to mechanically couple the first connectorized optical cable to the mounting element so that the first connectorized optical cable is optically coupled to the first side of the assembly of the optical interface.

An optical adaptor for mounting to a receptacle to optically couple connectorized optical cables comprises an optical interface to optically couple a first connectorized optical cable terminated by a first optical connector and a second connectorized optical cable terminated by a second optical connector. The optical adaptor further comprises a mounting element being configured to insert the optical interface and being mountable to the receptacle. The mounting element is secured to the receptacle, when the first optical connector is mounted to the mounting element in a first state, and the mounting element is released from the receptacle, when the first optical connector is mounted to the mounting element in a second state allowing to pull the optical adaptor out of the receptacle.

An optical adaptor for mounting to a receptacle to optically couple connectorized optical cables comprises an assembly of an optical interface to provide an optical path between a first and a second one of the connectorized optical cables to optically couple the first and the second connectorized optical cable. The optical adaptor further comprises a mounting element formed as a hollow body to mount the assembly of the optical interface. The assembly of the optical interface is configured to be insertable in the hollow body of the mounting element. The mounting element is configured to mechanically couple the first connectorized optical cable to the mounting element so that the first connectorized optical cable is optically coupled to the optical path.

An optical adaptor for mounting to a receptacle to optically couple connectorized optical cables comprises an assembly of an optical extension comprising an optical lens to provide an optical bridging path between a first and a second one of the connectorized optical cables to optically couple the first and the second connectorized optical cable. The assembly of the optical extension has a first side to optically couple the first connectorized optical cable to the optical lens and a second side to optically couple the second connectorized optical cable to the optical lens. A mounting element is configured to receive the assembly of the optical extension and to mount the optical adaptor to the receptacle.

An optical adaptor for mounting to a receptacle to optically couple connectorized optical cables comprises a coupling element to provide a passageway for inserting a ferrule of a first optical connector to terminate a first one of the connectorized optical cables and a ferrule of a second optical connector to terminate a second one of the connectorized optical cables to optically couple the first and the second connectorized optical cable. The optical adaptor further comprises a mounting element being mountable to the receptacle to hold the optical adaptor. The mounting element is configured to receive the coupling element.

Apparatus for inserting optical fibers into furcation tubes comprises a plurality duct-like channels each configured to receive one of the furcation tubes in such a way that the furcation tube is insertable from a first side of the apparatus into the duct-like channel so that a long tube section of the furcation tube can be left protruding on the first side and a short tube section of the furcation tube can protrude on an opposite second side of the apparatus. Each duct-like channel is further configured so that a portion of the long tube section becomes spread apart along a longitudinal slot of the furcation tube, thereby allowing an optical fiber to be inserted into the short tube section and extended through the furcation tube before protruding from the longitudinal slot in the long tube section.
