An autonomous vehicle collision/crossing warning system provides for simple, inexpensive and decentralized installation, operation and maintenance of a reliable vehicle collision/crossing warning system. The autonomous warning system preferably utilizes a single frequency TDM radio communication network with GPS clock synchronization, time slot arbitration and connectionless UDP protocol to broadcast messages among vehicles and components in the warning system. Adaptive localized mapping of components of interest within the warning system eliminates the need for centralized databases or coordination and control systems and enables new vehicles and warning systems to be easily added to the system in a decentralized manner. Preferably, stationary warning systems are deployed as multiple self-powered units each equipped to receive broadcast messages and to communicate with the other units by a low power RF channel in a redundant Master-Slave configuration. The communication schemes are preferably arranged for low duty cycle operation to decrease power consumption.

Preferred embodiments of the present invention provide a sign system for creating extremely lightweight, reconfigurable, and changeable signs suitable for outdoor use adjacent to roadways. The system provides adjustable message screen size, electronically changeable messages and alphanumeric adjustable character size of at least 6 inches in height. The system comprises a sign controller and a plurality of interchangeable modules each sealed to be weather resistant. Each module having a display side with a rectangular screen portion, the screen portion having transparent portions with pixel elements positioned behind said transparent portions and within said module. Each module has the pixels arranged in a first matrix pattern and sufficient in number to provide alphanumeric characters and portions of characters of adjustable size of at least 6 inches. Each module having a bit map memory and being individually addressable with respect to other modules. The modules are arrangeable in a rectangular matrix on a support structure without a sign screen enclosure and with the screen portions of the modules defining a sign screen. The screen size reconfigurable by adding or subtracting display modules. The modules in communication with the sign controller to receive bit map data for forming, in conjunction with a plurality of other sign modules comprising a sign screen, and desired message.

The present invention is a modular electronic sign having a plurality of display units assembled on a mounting track and connected to a sign controller. Each display unit has a circuit board having a plurality of light emitting diodes arranged in a pattern thereon. A microprocessor in each display unit is in communication with the sign controller and adjacent display units. Each display unit is hermetically sealed to avoid a separate enclosure for the modular sign. A plurality of clips are used to electrically connect the display units to power and communications conductors. A plurality of compression clips mechanically connect the display units to the mounting track. Each display unit is mountable to the mounting track either horizontally or vertically.

A pan/tilt device consists of a pan motor and a tilt motor on a motor mount structure, a camera mount structure rotatable by the pan motor about the pan axis, a camera bracket on the camera mount structure rotatable by the tilt motor along the tilt axis. A pair of concentric drive shafts extend from the motor mount structure to the camera mount structure to accomplish the pan and tilt functions. The pan/tilt device is capable of remote operation over a computer network.

A height adjustable bed and storage unit for small living quarters in which substantially vertical posts are fixedly attached to the floor and ceiling of the living quarters. Each post includes a mating structure for mating to a cross-member at a plurality of vertical positions, the cross-member being utilized for holding a platform substantially horizontally. The cross-member is releasable from the mating structure without the use of tools.
