Modular bone implant, tool, and method

An implant for resurfacing at least a portion of an articulation surface of a bone includes a body having a first side with a top articular surface and an opposing second side with a bone apposition surface. The bone apposition surface is adapted to bias against a natural or resected articulation surface of a bone. An elongated flexible first line is coupled to and extends from the body.

Tethered joint bearing implants and systems

A method includes resecting a portion of an articulation surface of a bone at a joint. A guide template is positioned on the resected articulation surface. The guide template at least partially bounds an opening that is disposed over the resected articulation surface. A portion of the resected articulation surface of the bone bounded within the opening of the guide template is then removed through the opening of the guide template.

Instruments and methods for preparing a joint articulation surface for an implant

Modular bone implants, manner of assembly, and their method of use are presented. In one form thereof, a tibial component of a knee prosthesis is providing including a tray having substantially planar top and bottom surfaces and an extension forming an elongate body having a top end and a bottom end. One of the tray and extension includes an outwardly projecting boss, with the boss having an outer wall including a cylindrical portion and a tapered portion. The other of the tray and extension includes an inwardly extending bore forming a bore wall, the bore wall including a cylindrical portion and a tapered portion.

An adjustable die set and method for forming corrugations in a sheet in which pairs of elongated forming bars are detachably mounted parallel to each other in respective holders driven by upper and lower press members. One pair is more closely spaced than the other and moves between the forming bars of the other pair to form a corrugation. The spacing and depth of the bar is varied to produce corresponding varying configurations of the corrugations.

Adjustable corrugating die sets and method of forming corrugations of varying configurations

A suture anchor includes a placement portion frangably connected to an attachment portion. The attachment portion includes an outwardly projecting barb. During insertion of the suture anchor within a bore hole formed on a bone, the barb scores at least a portion of the bone bounding the bore hole. Once the suture anchor is disposed within the bore hole, a withdrawal force is applied to the suture anchor such that the attachment portion thereof rotates within the bore hole and disconnects from the placement portion. In an alternative embodiment, the suture anchor can be formed without the outwardly projecting barb.

Modular bone implants include first and second components removably attached to one another. In one embodiment, the components include a rotational alignment mechanism within the junction between the components. In another embodiment, the components include fins on each component that align without touching.

A suture anchor delivery system includes a handle having a needle extending therefrom. A suture anchor assembly is slidably received on the needle. The suture anchor assembly includes a proximal anchor, a distal anchor, and a suture extending therebetween. The suture is secured to the proximal anchor by forming a loop in the suture and passing the loop at least partially through a passageway in the proximal anchor. One end of the suture is then secured to the distal anchor. The other end of the suture is passed through the loop and terminates in a free end to selectively lock the suture against the proximal anchor. A retraction line is passed through the loop to allow a surgeon to selectively adjust the length of the suture between the two anchors and/or to selectively unlock the suture from the proximal anchor.

Soft tissue repair system

A pair of bone clamps used for open reduction and internal fixation of a fractured bone or osteotomy is interconnected by a lockable, articulating connection apparatus. Each bone clamp includes a primary clamping means for manipulating a bone fragment back into a proper position. Additionally, each bone clamp includes a secondary bone clamping means that provides adequate clamping force for maintaining the reduction so that the primary clamping means can be released. The secondary bone clamping means provides clearance for the positioning and application of a fracture fixation prosthesis to stabilize the reduction during healing. The bone clamps and lockable, articulating connection apparatus together comprise a bone setting apparatus that provides for unconstrained manual reduction and alignment of the bone fracture, locking of the reduction in a fixed position and orientation, and application of a fracture fixation prosthesis, thereby securing the reduction.

Bone setting apparatus and method

Centering devices are provided for use with Brinell hardness measuring instruments, particularly electro-optical probes, which include one or more illumination sources in a housing having an aperture at one end which is aligned with an optical axis of the probe to provide the optics a view of the specimen surface opposite the opening. In one embodiment, a spider-like centering structure is provided protruding through the probe end opening. The centering structure directs light from source in the probe directly into an indentation in a specimen surface engaging the centering structure and prevents light from crossing the indentation and reducing edge contrast. A mask further prevents spillage of light from each source onto the specimen surface adjoining the indentation and the source so as to heighten contrast differences between the bright surface of the indentation and the dark surrounding specimen surface. Diametric measurements and hardness determinations can be performed without visual observation of the illuminated indentation by an operator. Specimen hardness can be determined from illumination intensity data generated and gathered during a single illumination of the indentation taking about 1/30th of a second. Another device includes a source developing a beam of visible light, which is directed through the probe end opening with sufficient intensity to permit an operator to locate and at least generally align the probe end with an indentation using the light beam.

Brinell hardness-measuring probe with centering device

A centering device for Brinell hardness-measuring instruments includes an alignment member positioned at the opening of the instrument providing a field of view to the optics within the instrument. A central portion of the alignment member protrudes through the instrument opening and is hemispherically configured to mate with a circular Brinell penetrator indentation in the specimen surface. The central portion of the alignment member is open to freely pass light axially through the alignment member. The alignment member is preferably spring supported within the instrument to permit the alignment member to partially retract into the instrument and the working face of the instrument to be positioned against the specimen. A switch is provided responsive to movement of the alignment member to activate a light source in the instrument.
