A method of forming an impression sleeve on an impression packer for use in obtaining impressions in wells, the impression sleeve being formed of a mixture of partially cured synthetic nitrile rubber, natural rubber smoked sheet, silica powder and rubber processing oil.

Material for impression packer

An impression sleeve for use in an impression packer comprising a smooth rolled sheet adapted to be connected on the outside of a packer to form an impression cover therefor, said sheet composed of about 60% to 80% by weight synthetic nitrile rubber, about 10% to 20% by weight natural rubber smoked sheet, about 5% to 15% by weight hydrated amorphous silica, and about 2% to 6% by weight of rubber processing oil.

Impression material for use in an impression packer

A method for forming rubber slugs of precisely determined masses. The method embodying the instant invention may be performed utilizing a machine characterized by a stripper unit which serves to extract a continuous, uniformly dimensioned strip of rubber from an endless sheet provided about a roller of a rubber mill, a platen roller, disposed adjacent to the rubber mill and driven at a substantially constant angular velocity, adapted to receive the strip in an adhering relationship for tensioning the extracted strip and a reciprocating knife for transversely severing the tensioned strip into slugs of predetermined lengths, whereby the mass of each of the resulting slugs is precisely determined.
