A method of making a composite part including an insert and an elastomer layer that is bonded to the insert. The insert is placed in a mold and an uncured elastomer is sprayed into the mold to form a composite part. The inherent adhesive properties of the uncured elastomer is the sole mechanism for bonding the elastomer to the insert.

An improved acoustical system for inhibiting noise in a motor vehicle. The system comprises an impermeable layer and an underlayment adjacent to the impermeable layer. The underlayment includes a first fibrous layer and a second fibrous layer. The underlayment has an airflow resistance between about 2000 and about 5000 mks Rayls.

A vehicle seat cover is designed to facilitate acoustic energy absorption by forming in the cover an optimal size and arrangement of perforations based on at target noise frequency range, the perforations allowing the noise to pass through the cover into the interior structure of the seat where the acoustic energy is dissipated in the form of heat.

Method of tuning acoustical absorption in a vehicle interior

A reverberation room comprising walls, ceiling and floor having specific dimensions and spatial relationships used in an automotive testing laboratory to analyze sound for the purposes of measuring transmission loss and sound absorption. The room possesses two transmission loss test windows. One window is placed in the ceiling and one is placed in a side wall. Samples for testing can be mounted horizontally in the ceiling window. A rotating microphone boom is used in combination with the room to sample the sound field in the reverbration room and in reception chambers attached thereto. Three loudspeakers are also positioned in the room to generate the sound field in the reverberation room and indirectly in the reception chambers.
