A system, and method, for training athletes to increase power is provided in a flexible barbell for enhancing weight lifting exercises. The flexible barbell has an elongated shape comprising ends. At least one flexible bar may be included when an elongated shape with a center is used. Weights are attached to the shape near the ends. The shape bends relative to a tangent to the center in response to the center of the flexible barbell being moved.

In addition, the flexible exercise device contains metal particles in the core of the device which will move back and forth freely inside the exercise device adding to the exercise benefits by increasing the weight and increasing resistance through the dynamic movement of the metal particles plus creating a noise that can allow an individual to achieve more benefit from an exercise such as walking to enhancing better coordination in the movement of one's hands and arms with the simultaneous movement of one's legs as in walking by trying to achieve a consistent noise level during the exercise.

The device is held at its ends by the hands with the arms in an outstretched position while a person sits with legs bent. A structural member for reinforcement of asphalt and concrete roadways and other products, and which comprises a gridwork of warp strands and weft strands which are disposed at right angles to each other and so as to define an open structure. In one embodiment, the gridwork is impregnated with a thermosettable B-stage resin so as to interlock the strands at their crossover points and maintain the gridwork in a semi-flexible state, and after being applied to the product to be reinforced, the resin is heated to convert the same into a fully cured composite to thereby rigidize the gridwork and reinforce the product. In cases where the product to be reinforced is heated, such as asphalt paving, the heat of the product provides the heat necessary to fully cure the resin in situ. In another embodiment, the resin is fully cured to rigidize the gridwork prior to its being applied to the structure to be reinforced. A method of producing the resin impregnated gridwork is also disclosed.

Structural reinforcement member and method of utilizing the same to reinforce a product

Carbon fiber sheet materials having improved dimensional stability and ease of handling are provided. The sheet materials include a carbon fiber network and an adhesive polymeric material adhered to at least one surface of the carbon fiber network. The invention further provides methods of making the carbon fiber sheet materials, as well as electrodes and electrical energy storage devices which include the carbon fiber sheet material as a component thereof.

Carbon fiber sheet materials and methods of making and using the same

A reinforcing lamina sheet and a process of making a reinforcing sheet for use in a glue laminated beam. The reinforcing lamina sheet increases the compressive and/or tensile strength of the glue laminate beam. The lamina sheet is formed from unidirectionally oriented reinforcing filaments, preferably aramid filaments in an epoxy resin, and is cured in a curved configuration. The resulting lamina sheet includes filaments which are uniformly tensioned and, therefore, when a load is applied to the glue laminate beam having the reinforcing lamina sheet, the fibers receive the load substantially simultaneously. The process of forming the lamina sheet includes drawing reinforcement yarns through a resin bath to form a resin impregnated substantially planar yarn band, contacting one side of the resulting impregnated band with a curved heated surface to promote partial curing of at least the contacting surface of the band, and further applying heat to at least the opposite side of the partially cured band.

Method of utilizing a structural reinforcement member to reinforce a product

The invention provides a glass fiber facing sheet for engineered surfaces such as cement boards which reduces the pitting associated with open mesh glass scrims. The glass fiber facing sheet comprises an open mesh glass scrim having a plurality of intersecting continuous multifilament yarns which are bonded at their crossover points to provide dimensional stability to the scrim. A melt blown polymer web is preferably joined to one face of the glass scrim and covers the mesh openings in the scrim. The opposed face of the scrim defines an exposed grid profile surface which is available for mechanical interaction between the scrim and the cementitious slurry used in cement boards. In cement boards, the glass fiber facing sheet of the present invention is preferably mechanically integrated into a surface portion of the cement core along the exposed grid profile of the scrim. A second facing sheet may also be mechanically integrated into an opposed surface portion of the cement core and contain a melt blown polymer web joined to one face. The present invention further includes a method of making the glass fiber facing sheet of the invention and a method of making a smooth cement board containing the glass fiber facing sheet of the invention.

Method of making glass fiber facing sheet

A reinforcing grid which advantageously includes fibers of both a first type and a second type is provided. The first type of fibers have a strength sufficient to reinforce the hardenable structural material, such as concrete, after hardening. The first type of fibers also have a higher resistance to degradation in the hardenable material than the second type of fibers. As such, the first type of fibers will continue to reinforce the hardened material in the event the fibers of the second type become corroded in the hardened material. Consequently, a less expensive type of fiber can be used as the second type of fiber and can corrode in the hardenable material without concern for the strength of the hardened structural product. According to one embodiment, the first type of fibers comprises carbon fibers and the second type of fibers comprises glass fibers.

A precast concrete modular device using thin coffered sections reinforced preferably with carbon and/or glass fiber scrim grids, in between steel reinforced ribs is provided. The thin reinforced sections stiffen the steel reinforced precast frame. The thin sections preferably have a thickness less than about two inches, preferably less than about 1&frac12; inch, and more preferably less than about 1 inch. The resultant modules have an areal weight of less than about 40 lbs. per square foot.

A structural reinforcement in the form of an open gridwork which is advantageously used, for example, as part of a shoe sole. The structural reinforcement provides and/or enhances spring-like characteristics of the member it is reinforcing, propels and encourages the natural foot strike of the user to length the user's stride, increases the stride speed, and stabilizes the user's foot to prevent permanent compression of the midsole as a result of creep. The gridwork is impregnated throughout with a fully cured or B-stage thermosettable resin. The gridwork includes at least one continuous filament selected from the group consisting of glass, carbon, and aramid. The open gridwork is flat, corrugated, or double corrugated. The corrugated gridwork may be sinusoidal. The open gridwork may be part of a shoe midsole or may constitute a shoe midsole.
