Existence of instrumentation for automatic video recording creates an excess capacity of video recording for those who own automatic video recorders. Others may want to utilize this excess capacity to record their activities thus there is a need for a system that helps match those who would like to utilize the excess capacity with those who have such capacity. Such excess capacity is matched with demand to use such excess capacity by creating a network of automatic video recording units and tags that are associated with people who want to be recorded.

Tracking camera network

Current indoor tracking methods are inadequate to accurately and reliably point a pointer or camera at an object or a person doing an activity. An apparatus and method are provided for cooperative tracking that is operable both indoors and outdoors. The system works using ranging technology without the need for placing radiation sources and/or sensors in set locations around the location where tracking takes place. The apparatus and method may be used for automatic filming, allowing free movement of both the subject of the filming and that of the camera with a compact design, and providing easy setup at any location.

Apparatus and method for automatically orienting a camera at a target

A system and method are provided for automatic cooperative object tracking using gain comparison of antenna pairs facing different directions. In cooperative object tracking, the object is associated with a radiation source, or beacon, that emits radiation that is detected by the tracking system. The present invention makes use of antennas that are not highly oriented antennas but are characterized by having a steep drop in their gain profiles at a particular angle of incidence of the radiation that they detect.

Cooperative automatic tracking

The video recording systems disclosed herein comprise recording devices built in a variety of system architectures depending on the type of intended use. The guiding principle of the system architectures is that an optimal recording device will have optics, sensor, control electronics, and communication capability designed for the purpose of use. User controls, as well as power sources may be separated from the optimal recording device. Different applications may demand a variety of accessories including camera mounts, automatic camera orientation capabilities, remote control devices, and remote power sources, all of which may be designed as use-specific devices and optimized for the purpose of use.

Application dependent video recording device architecture

A remotely controlled automatic camera tracking system for self-photography is disclosed. The systems hereof combine the functions of remote camera operation, including closed loop automatic zoom control, and camera tracking by employing a system architecture that eliminates the requirement to have microprocessors coupled to the tracking station for the calculation of range and bearing. The system enables range and bearing information to be viewed by the operator, if desired, and conserves radio power.
