The inventive system and method for enabling external applications to display data in the security system has a table with a plurality of rules and an interface for processing the external application data for display, such that when an alert occurs in the security system, one of the rules defines a response to the alert and the device performs the response. This system and method protects the integrity of the security system as well as allows the display of data by external applications on the security system.

Device for coordinating displays on a security system

A system and method for securing a structure, such as a residence or other building, against intrusion, while reducing generation of false alarms when an occupant of the structure inadvertently trips a contact detector by opening an entry point (door, window, etc.) is provided. The contact detector is coupled with a motion detector that is directed to monitor motion within the structure at a location proximate to the entry point being monitored by the contact detector. Generally, when the contact detector detects that the entry point is being opened, a fault is issued to a control panel, which in turn generates an alarm. However, if motion is detected within the structure and proximate to the entry point prior to the contact detector registering an opening of the entry point, no fault is generated.

A system and method for monitoring the whereabouts of a patient in a house using security system components such as motion detectors and the like, and for providing automated lighting sequences to strategically located light fixtures for use as an aide in the patient walking around the house unattended.

Method and system for monitoring a patient in a premises

Security systems, such as in a home or other building, are interfaced with one another so that alarm messages and other information regarding a first security system are communicated to a second security system. In response, a user at the second system can send commands to the first system, such as for arming or disarming the first system. A user interface device at the second system includes an output component, such as a display screen, for displaying alarm messages from both the first and second systems. Other information, such as video and audio data from the first system, can also be provided at the second system. An input component, such as a keypad, allows the user to enter commands for controlling both the first and second systems. Communication between the security systems may be realized via an RF link, telephone link, and/or computer network.

Method and apparatus for interfacing security systems

A number of different security systems, such as in home or business locations, periodically transmit status data to a remote facility such as a central monitoring station so that it is continuously informed of the security systems' status. The status may relate to an alarm status, armed status, or trouble code status. A user interface at the remote facility provides a spreadsheet format that allows a user to quickly ascertain the status of the security systems, and to send commands to the security systems. The security systems may be controlled individually or in groups, such as to add or delete authorizations. The user interface can filter or sort the information, or obtain further details. Other information, such as video and audio data from a security system, can also be provided to the remote facility for use in the user interface. Information can be recorded for subsequent playback.

Central station monitoring with real-time status and control

A MEMS (micro-electronic mechanical system) sensor unit is described for wireless security applications that provides an extended battery life for the MEMS sensor unit, to provide both immediate MEMS motion detection, and also an 'out of range' detection capability when the MEMS sensor unit is moved beyond the range of a security system receiver, providing both capabilities without an unacceptable reduction in battery life for the MEMS sensor unit.
