A method for programming a network transceiver is provided. The method includes: providing a network transceiver having a programming interface; obtaining transceiver identification information via a radio-frequency transceiver programming system (RTPS); obtaining, via the RTPS, configuration data for the network transceiver based on the transceiver identification information; transmitting, via the RTPS, at least some of the configuration data via a radio-frequency (RF) interface; and programming the network transceiver via the programming interface using the at least some of the configuration data received via the RF interface. Corresponding systems, apparatuses (including smart labels, host devices, and transceivers) are also provided.

Systems and methods for programming pluggable transceivers

Systems and methods for programming pluggable transceivers are provided. In an embodiment, a method includes receiving RFID data from an RFID device in proximity to a network transceiver via an RFID antenna in the network transceiver, said RFID data defining an operating configuration of the network transceiver; and programming the network transceiver according to the operating configuration defined by the received RFID data. In an embodiment, a network transceiver includes: a host interface for connecting to a host; a network interface for transmitting and receiving signals to and from a network; an RFID antenna for receiving RFID data; and a controller in operative communication with the network interface and the RFID antenna, said controller operating the network interface according to an operating configuration, wherein the operating configuration of the controller is programmed using the RFID data received via the RFID antenna. Various other embodiments are also provided.

System and method for programming pluggable transceivers

A method is provided for seamless migration from a scaleable optical add/drop multiplexer to a network switching node in an optical transport network. The method includes: providing a pre-deployed optical add/drop multiplexer (OADM) at a network node in the optical transport network; introducing an additional optical add/drop multiplexer (OADM) at the network node; and interconnecting the pre-deployed OADM to the additional OADM using a photonic cross-connect switch, where the photonic cross-connect switch is operable to route optical signals amongst the optical transport lines connected to the pre-deployed OADM and the upgraded OADM.

Method of seamless migration from scaleable OADM to a network switching node

A network management communication infrastructure is provided that supports in-fiber signaling amongst the network components residing in an optical transport network. The network management communication infrastructure introduces an optical media management channel into each of the optical fibers that resides in an optical transport network.
