A system and method for re-routing a failed video call schedules one or more reserve video devices for use in the event of failure of the video devices selected to support a video call. Upon detection of a failure of a video device, the video network platform re-establishes the video call by using the reserve video devices to replace the failed video device, thus avoiding the waste of video network resources and delays in the completion of a video call. More efficient use of reserve video devices is obtained by pooling the reserve video devices with a reserve video network that supports plural primary video networks.

System and method for re-routing failed video calls

A method and system for routing video calls includes one or more video endpoints. An array of infrastructure routing elements transmits the video calls between the video endpoints along one or more principle routes and one or more back-up routes. The system and method further includes a video network platform in communication with the video endpoints and the infrastructure routing elements, and the video network platform prioritizing the principle routes and the back-up routes. A scheduling engine associated with the infrastructure routing elements is operable to monitor the performance of the infrastructure routing elements, determine a reliability model for each infrastructure routing element, and intelligently route the video calls based on the reliability models without losing communication between the video endpoints.

System and method for routing video calls

A method and system interface a digital data stream having at least one telephony data set with a telephony network, such as a single twisted wire pair telephony network installed in a residence or business. The telephony data set is converted to a telephony signal for use by conventional telephony devices, such as telephones, and is transmitted through the telephony network in a telephony network band. The telephony network band can be located outside of the voiceband to avoid interference with central office signals. Plural data telephony data sets can each provide a telephony signal directed to one or more telephony devices associated with the telephony network. Telephone control modules interfaced associated with the telephony devices can translate telephony signals from the telephony network band to the voiceband for use by the associated telephony devices. The method and system can support plural simultaneous telephony communications through a single twisted pair or other telephony network. The digital data stream can comprise a TCP/IP data stream transmitted through internet transmission mediums, including telephone and cable internet interfaces with a personal computer.

A multi-station telephone system having a telephone control module (24) based user site network is provided. The system includes a plurality of electronic devices (26) located at a user site (12). A site telephone line (20) is coupled to a telephone line (16) provided by a telephone network (10) and extends through the user site (12). A plurality of telephone control modules (24) are coupled to the site telephone line (20) and to associated electronic devices (26). The telephone control modules (24) are operable to monitor telephone line communications (32) on the site telephone line (20) and to monitor associated electronic devices (26). The telephone control modules (24) are also operable to isolate associated electronic devices from and couple them to the site telephone line (20). Each telephone control module (24) is further operable to communicate with other telephone control modules (24) to form a user site (12) network for providing control of telephone line communications.

Telephone control module and user site network and methods of operation

A method and system for directing a telephone call to an intended call recipient. The method and system may be used to place both inbound calls to and outbound calls from a user. The method and system includes the steps and functions of generating a call signal associated with the intended call recipient. The call signal is translated to an identifier for a set of telephone numbers, such as a telephone number selection matrix, associated with the intended call recipient. At least one telephone number is then selected to call from the set of telephone numbers according to a plurality of continually changing parameters. The system then places a telephone call using the selected telephone number. The success of the telephone call is determined according to at least one predetermined criterion. In the event of an unsuccessful call, the system then selects at least one previously unselected telephone number from the set of telephone numbers and repeats the above steps until the first occurrence of either a successful telephone call or the condition that the set of telephone numbers contains no previously unselected telephone numbers. The previous successes in using a given telephone number determine its likelihood of being used in subsequent calls when the continuously changing parameters have similar values.

Adaptive telephone number selection method and system

A system for monitoring play of a golfer (24, 26) comprises Location Information Transmitters (LIT) (54, 56) at predetermined locations within a golf course and a Mobile Electronic Transmitter/Receiver (METAR) (48, 50) carried in association with a golfer (24, 26) on a golf cart (28) or golf bag (32). A METAR (48) periodically transmits a METAR code over a restricted transmission range (300). In response to the METAR (48) being proximate to a LIT (54), LIT (54) receives the METAR code. After receiving the METAR code, LIT (54) transmits a play monitoring signal including its LIT code and the received METAR code to a Tracking Center (227) located in a clubhouse (22). Golf course personnel in the clubhouse (22) can monitor a display terminal (242) of the Tracking Center (227) and determine play of golfers (24, 26), use of golf carts (28, 34) and use of golf holes (10, 14). If a golfer (24) causes a slow play condition, the Tracking Center (227) is notified and the golfer (24) is asked to increase the rate of play or leave the golf course. Additionally, in response to METAR (48) receiving a signal from an LIT (54) associated with a particular hole, METAR (48) can count down the time allotted to play that hole, and notify golfer (24) if that time is exceeded.

Improved system for monitoring play of a golfer

A system for monitoring play of a golfer (24,26) comprises Location Information Transmitters (LIT) (52, 54, 56) at predetermined locations within a golf course and a Mobile Electronic Transmitter/Receiver (METAR) (48, 50) carried in association with a golfer (24,26) on a golf bag (30) or a golf cart (28). A METAR (48) transmits a METAR code to a LIT (54), which then transmits its LIT code and the received METAR code to a Tracking Center (22) display terminal. Golf course personnel can monitor the display terminal and determine play of golfers (24, 26), golf cart (28, 34) utilization and golf hole (10, 14) utilization. When the golfer (24) causes a slow play indication, the Tracking Center (22) is notified and the slow golfer (24) is asked to increase the rate of play or leave the golf course. The METAR (48) transmission may be begun in response to the METAR (48) receiving an LIT code periodically transmitted by an LIT (52, 54, 56) over a restricted transmission range (58, 60, 62). When the METAR (48) arrives within an LIT (54) transmission range (60), the METAR (48) receives a LIT code and subsequently initiates a counter to measure time required by the golfer (24) to move within transmission range (62) of a next LIT (56). If the counter exceeds a prescribed time, then a display on the METAR (48) indicates slow play.
