Thioalkylated aromatic amines are prepared by reacting a mixture of an aromatic amine, an organic disulfide and a Lewis acid or organometallic catalyst to form a product mixture and adding to said product mixture a poly(oxyalkylene)polymer or by reacting a mixture of an aromatic amine, an organic disulfide and a Lewis acid or organometallic catalyst in the presence of a poly(oxyalkylene)polymer for the purpose of easy handling of the catalyst residue for recycling.

Aromatic diimines

An additive composition of boronated phenolic antioxidant and anti-haze diol capable of complexing with boric acid as well as organic material protected by the additive composition. A hydrolytically stable additive composition comprising a boronated phenolic antioxidant and a diol member capable of reacting with boric acid formed as a hydrolysis product to form a stable ring structure soluble in a substrate. The additive composition prevents or cures a haze caused by hydrolysis.

Novel compositions suitable for use in preparing prepregs comprise an epoxy resin and a poly(hydrocarbylthio)aromatic diamine curing agent, preferably a substituted di(alkylthio)-diaminobenzene wherein the alkylthio groups contain 1-10 carbons.

Corrosion caused by gasohol or alcohol motor fuels is inhibited by the addition of a corrosion inhibiting amount of the combination of (A) at least one monoalkenylsuccinic acid wherein the alkenyl group contains about 8 to 30 carbon atoms and (B) a substituted imidazoline, e.g., 2-heptadecenyl-1-(2-hydroxyethyl)imidazoline.

Corrosion inhibitor for alcohol and gasohol fuels

A mixture of aliphatic primary monohydric alcohol and alkoxyalkanol is continuously nitrated by reaction with a nitric-sulfuric acid mixture at -10.degree. to 15.degree. C. to yield an organic nitrate mixture containing substantial amounts of alkoxyalkyl nitrate useful as a cetane improver in diesel fuel.

Nitration process

A process for the production of a lower polyhydric alcohol or a mixture thereof by the hydrogenation and hydrolysis of a carbohydrate. The first stage hydrogenation produces higher polyhydric alcohols, such as sorbitol. In the second stage these higher polyhydric alcohols are selectively converted under the appropriate reaction conditions to lower polyhydric alcohols, such as ethylene glycol and 1,2-propylene glycol, using a sulfide-modified ruthenium catalyst.
