A secure communication management (SCM) computer device for providing secure data connections in an aviation environment which, includes safety of flight information, is provided. The SCM computer device includes a processor in communication with a memory. The processor is programmed to receive, from a first user computer device, a first data message for a first aircraft. The first data message is in a standardized data format. The processor is also programmed to analyze the first data message for potential cybersecurity threats. If the determination is that the first data message does not contain a cybersecurity threat, the processor is further programmed to convert the first data message into a first data format associated with the first aircraft and transmit the converted first data message to the first aircraft using a first communication protocol associated with the first aircraft.

A routing system operably links a mobile platform to the Internet. The system includes a ground based communications link manager linkable to the mobile platform. At least one ground based prefix server can communicate with the communications link manager. An initial Internet address is assigned to the mobile platform. A prefix server program communicates the initial destination address of the mobile platform to the communications link manager and to the Internet. During a travel segment of the mobile platform a new destination address can be communicated to the Internet using the prefix server to maintain communication between the mobile platform and the Internet.

Bidirectional video teleconferences are provided on a mobile platform. A first video teleconference terminal is disposed on a mobile platform. A first local area network is arranged to provide network data services on the mobile platform and is arranged to communicate with the first video teleconference terminal. A second local area network is arranged to provide network data services and is arranged to communicate with a second video teleconference terminal. The first and second local area networks are in bidirectional packet data communications, and packets of video teleconference data are prioritized over packets of data for services other than video teleconferencing.

Method and apparatus for bi-directional video teleconferencing on mobile platforms

A wireless local area network adapted for use by users traveling on a mobile platform such as an aircraft. The network includes a network server located on the mobile platform, and at least one network access point connected to the server and accessible wirelessly by at least one user portable electronic device over one of a plurality of non-overlapping network frequency channels. The RF characteristics of this wireless network are specifically tailored to meet applicable standards for electromagnetic compatibility with aircraft systems and RF exposure levels for passengers and flight crews.
