The present disclosure relates generally to orthopaedic surgical tools used to cut and/or resect a bone of a patient during an orthopaedic surgical procedure such as, for example, a joint replacement procedure.

System, apparatus, and method for cutting bone during an orthopaedic surgical procedure

A method for cutting a bone of a patient using a bone saw tool that includes determining a cutting region that corresponds to a region of the bone to be cut and determining the position of the bone saw tool in the coordinate system. The method includes activating a bone saw blade guard of the bone saw tool if the bone saw tool is outside the cutting region.

Method for cutting bone during an orthopaedic surgical procedure

Patient specific surgical instruments, and in particular cutting guides, and methods of use and manufacture are described. The surgical instrument can be used in an orthopaedic arthroplasty procedure to be carried out on a joint of a patient and can allowing soft tissue balancing for the joint. The instrument comprises a body having an attachment area configured using data specific to a bone of the joint of the patient so as to attach to the bone in a unique position. The instrument includes at least a first cutting guide and an adjustment mechanism operable to change the position of the cutting guide relative to the bone.

Surgical instrument

A customized patient-specific orthopaedic surgical system including a first surgical block, a second surgical block, and a computer-controlled milling machine. The first surgical block includes a first bone-facing surface having a first customized patient-specific negative contour to receive a first corresponding contour of a bone of a patient and a first mounting surface. The second surgical block includes a second bone-facing surface having a second customized patient-specific negative contour to receive a second corresponding contour of the bone of the patient and a second mounting surface to be separately mated with the first mounting surface. The computer-controlled milling machine includes a third mounting surface to be separately mated with the first mounting surface of the first surgical block.

Customized patient-specific computer controlled cutting system and method

A bone saw tool includes a bone saw and a bone saw blade assembly. The bone saw blade assembly includes a bone saw blade and a bone saw blade guard. The bone saw blade guard is movable to an extended position to reduce the cutting effectiveness of the bone saw blade and/or the maximum cutting depth of the bone saw blade. The bone saw may be configured to activate the bone saw blade guard in response to a signal received from a computer system when the bone saw is moved outside a predetermined cutting region.
